For me, being a fan of BSB is not about number 1 records or beating 'nsync.

I am a fan of BSB because their music has touch my life, because their songs give me inspiration.

I know that when I listen to "As Long as you love me" it trasports me back to 1998, it makes me think of all the fun and good times I had listening to it with all my friends way back in Grade 8.

I hope that BSB will continue to make great music together, and not worry about becoming a huge pop-sensation.

I thought the article was very interesting. I hate to hear about all the trials they have been through, but hopefully it has only made them stronger and that strength will get them through. As for Nick's solo cd. It is bad timing in terms of a BSB cd, but it seems to me, that the other members of the group have gotten to make personal decisions and take personal time. Brian and Kevin got married. AJ had to take some time for his mental well-being and go to rehab in the middle of the tour. He has also become engaged. Nick has been a part of this group for almost 10 years now and maybe this is what he needed for his own mental well-being. And maybe the title of the cd is true. Maybe it was Now or Never for him. I hope he will take the time now to record with the guys and give us all a BSB cd as well.

As a HUGE BSB fan for just over three years, I have come to enjoy BSB's music and everything they do. Although BSB has been to hell and back in the last year or so, I still believe that they have what it takes to make it. SO WHAT if Nick wants to try a solo CD? Even if it flops, he still got to do what he's always wanted to do and I am supporting Nick and can't wait until his CD comes out. SO WHAT if BSB released a Greatest Hits CD too soon? If you think about it, BSB aren't really to blame because Jive or somebody pushed them to release it early, according to the article. Besides, Elton John has released who knows how many greatest hits CDs in his lifetime, and he's still around. In fact, he's played at many venues that are s small or even smaller than the arenas BSB played at during the Black and Blue tour and you don't see people telling him to stop what he's doing. Yes, Elton John and BSB come from different sides of the road, but it's still true! Also, so what if BSB don't sell as many CDs in one week and the other bands? The one-week sale thing has got to be the biggest excuse for declaring an album a failure I've ever heard of. You know, when we only focus on the one-week sales of an album, we're only looking at ONE WEEK of an album's sales in ONE COUNTRY. It doesn't say anything about the entire success of that CD anyways, so why are so many people worried about it? What else did I want to throw my opinion out on? Oh, a few more things. Ticket sales--if the stupid management wouldn't have blow ticket prices way through the roof, then I KNOW more BSB fans would have attended concerts. I have tons of friends older AND younger than me who couldn't go to the Black and Blue tour because of ticket prices. Hopefully, on BSB's next tour ticket prices will go down a bit and you'll see what I mean.

Ok, so when you look at the big picture, yes, BSB and their management have made many mistakes in the past year or so. BUT WHO HASN'T? Nothing sys BSB can't make comeback with their next album. Who knows? Who really knows what's next? I used to be so crazy and worried that BSB might really break up, etc. etc. but I learned that if you spend too much time worrying about the future, you'll forget about today! We still have BSB's music--that's not going anywhere. We still have all the memories of BSB concerts, TV appearances, magazine covers, and all the things that BSB has done for us so far. I mean, THEY AREN'T GONE! So WHY, tell me, do some people act like it, lol?

All this time BSB hsa been doing this for us the fans. Yeah, I'm sure they want to make money and a living, but they're probably already set for life as far as I'm concerned. Anyways, Nick, AJ, Kevin, Howie and Brian have been working their butts off for almost 10 years now trying to make us happy, and for crying out loud they sure have done it for me. Ya know, they're just human beings! Just like you and me! So quit putting so much presure on them to do things they don't quite have control over! Just do your part and keep being the loyal fan you've always been, and I'm sure the BSB will take care of the rest! And what they can't take of, don't worry about it! Time will tell in the end, and it's not the end yet so stop acting like it is, lol! Just keep nagging the radio people to play BSB, keep bombarding MTV with emails and letters declaring you're a loyal fan, do the same for magazines, email stupid critics who criticize awesome BSB shows, keep buying their CDs and magazines and whatnot, keep updating your BSB websites and clubs, and believe me, you've done more than enough!

Anyways, that's what I think about this whole matter, feel free to email me with your opinions or to just to chat about BSB. I love emailing BSB fans! Ok, I'm out...

Keep The Backstreet Pride Alive ALWAYS (even when other people won't),

Lizzy :)

P.S.--"As Long as You Love Me" just came on my radio station, for those of you who want to know!

As a music education major, I know what it is like trying to perfect to your music before you put it out for the public to hear. And that's just what our Boys strive for; perfection. They don't need to be putting out an album once a year for us to stay fans. We know that they work hard to create beautiful music for our listening pleasure. We know that they will be back and as always better than ever.

As for Nick and his solo album, I say more power to him. I think it's great that he wants to experiment with his talent and see what he can do. As someone else had already said (I don't remember who), maybe it really wasn't the best time for his solo album. But that's the way the cards fell this time.

As Backstreet fans, we need to stand behind the Boys every step of the way no matter what the press or anyone else says. They know we are here no matter what for them, so let's show them how we love them through think and thin. KTBSPA!

I have to say even though the article was a little shocking at first, I'm really glad it came out. I don't know about anyone else, but I personally blamed a lot of the stuff that happened on the boys when in reality they obviously didn't even have a say in most of the things that happened. Like the Greatest hits album. I actually thought it was just done to get the six albums they signed the contract for done faster. Or Black and Blue being pretty much like all the other albums before - it's kinda sad when you hear that they weren't all really happy with it and had to put it out anyways. Lately I also kinda got the feeling that the guys just didn't care anymore, but when you read all the s*** that went on behind the scenes I forgive them a lot of stuff (and feel a little bad about thinking some stuff in the first place)

I agree with pretty much everyone here when I say Nick's solo album is really bad timing. I like what I heard of it so far and I'm gonna buy it, but to do it this year, even planning a tour and everything, leaving the other four just hanging like that - I didn't think he'd be that selfish. I guess it's a pretty safe bet that in a year or two latest Brian or Kevin (or even AJ) are gonna start families and I guess then the Backstreet Boys are gonna be cut short a little anyway, he'd probably have a lot of time to a solo album then. Unless he's afraid that by then he's not popular anymore. About his staying with The Firm - to me that seems like pure rebellion. Maybe I'm over-dramatizing things, but that's pretty much back-stabbing the band on his part. At least I'd feel like that if I was one of the other guys.

I totally agree with LaQuana on the Leighanne part. I know his family is very important to Brian, as it should be, but he is the one with the experience, he shouldn't let his decisions be influenced by someone whose "career" was pretty much non-existent until he entered the picture and who doesn't have any experience in the music business whatsoever.

It's really sad to see what kind of s*** they had to go through in the past 9 years. Seems like they're running from one disaster into the next. That makes me respect them even more for not just quitting, but always picking up the pieces and trying to move along.

BSB have been screwed over so many times in their career it's not even funny. It just makes me respect them more. Sure they've made mistakes, haven't we all? But I think Jive is a lot of the problem too. I'm still waiting for the day when Jive is out of the way. Anyone else think it was messed up that Nick and Justin's singles came out on THE SAME DAY when Nick's album is coming out first?

It makes me sad to think about all the shit the guys have been put through over the past few years. I have been a hard core B.S.B fan since the beging (ever since grad nite at sea world) I have been turely and madly in love w/them. If anything good comes from this artical I hope it's a new found respect for the guys, and what they go through for their fans. Yeah I can't wait for Nicks new album, but I also agree that this wasn't the best timing for it. But who am i to say what's right. And untill I hear it straight from the guys they are still a group. No matter what happens they will be a part of my life. So in the words of Howie D, Let's keep the B.S.B pride alive. Anyone who reads this please feel free to e-mail me.
A proud Fan!!!

Well i have been a bsb fan for a long time and I am a boy, so that is kinda weird. I really don't care what people say about that but the article was very interesting for me because it took me deep inside what has really been going on. I though them doing a greatest hits album was a mistake but that wasn't their fault. I do think that they don't get the respect that they deserve from the media because the media is too busy hangin on nsync's balls. The Backstreet Boys clearly care about the music and fans, Nsync cares about the publicity, that's pretty clear to me. but yeah that pearlman guy is a dumb@ss. BSB got taken advantage of so much and it aint fair. People make a big F'n deal that BSB didnt outsell Nsync's album when i think it's B.S. that they sold that many copies for N.S.A. but they didnt deserve what they are worth and their music means a lot to me.I really hope that their new album will shut people up for good and have them realize what Nick said years ago in "Everybody","As long as there'll be music we'll be comin back again!"

My name is Erika, I live in Dominican Republic, and this is a country so far away from US, but what I wanna say is that I've been BSB fan since five years, i think fans know them so much more than anyone one who tries to show a false image of them, they don't know how hard is to get the love they've gotten from their fans and to get there where they are right now. They have almost 10 years working, and it doesn't compare to the 6 years or whatever of 'Nsync, 'cause they're TRUTHLY ARTIST, they got their own style, their own music, and if it's true that 'Nsync are "better" than BSB (and we know is not) is just because they always do the same as BSB, I don't know why they just don't try to get they're own life, and get their own ideas. Well also if we don't hear too much about BSB right now is 'cause they need to relax too, they're human beings, they're not computers, and also they're working on their new album. But when someday they decided to stop and do anything else (hope not soon), we'll just have to respect them and we'll be proud they were the best MEN GROUP (not "boy band") in the world and lasted more than any other. And remember QUANTITY WILL NEVER BE BETTER THAN QUALITY. That's all I gotta say.

As someone said, the music business is just that, a business. However, I find it sad that there exists a business that is as cut-throat as that of the music industry! The way I see it, if you work for a regular company, you may have a differing view point from that of your boss or some of your co-workers, but there is usually at least one person who agrees with you and is willing to stand up to help you! In the music business, that camaraderie doesn't exist. The Boys have to look out for each other, because no one else will, and that's pretty sad! It's sad to think that everything they've accomplished over the past 9, almost 10 years, means nothing to their record company or their management unless they're making money RIGHT NOW! I was disgusted when I read that, when given an ultimatum, The Firm didn't even flinch. They allowed the Boys to walk right out the door. Why? Because they weren't doing as well as they had done before. I know the Boys have great potential and I am positive that when their new album comes out, they will be back on top again! Then we'll see who's laughing. The record company was quick to replace the Boys with N'Sync when they weren't doing very well, but what happens when N'Sync falls into the same slump that the Backstreet Boys went through, and the record company has no one to fall back on? It's the record companies that are willing to stick with a band through the tough times, that will survive!
As for the Boys, I don't think they "came undone," as the title suggests, I think everything around them came undone. They're strong and regardless of what record company they're with or who's managing them, I believe that they can make a come back!
Nick's solo career is fine. I think it's only fair that he be allowed the opportunity to branch out and try something new since AJ did it awhile ago with his whole Johnny No Name thing. It's just that, the Boys have always said that the group would come before anything else, and I hope Nick hasn't lost sight of that. This group has been good to him and they need him now, more than ever! I think there's plenty of time for Nick to do his solo thing, but maybe right now, he should concentrate on the group! I would be willing to beg Nick not to tour before the Boys tour again! I miss seeing the Boys together and I can't wait for them to start a new tour! I'm sure many of you feel the same way. I think if Nick is smart, he'll release his single, but then continue his work with the group. Go on tour with the group and then when they take a break for two months or so, which they normally do, he can do a short tour then. That's what AJ did and it worked well for him!
Anyways, I wouldn't worry about what all these articles are saying. The Backstreet Boys will come back and I'm sure that when they do, it will be a triumphant return!

Hey, i agree with wut Tarra said cuz shes thinkin like almost exactly like me!! I luv The Backstreet Boys 2!! I have been a huge fan of them 4 longer than I can remember! I am also a huge Nick Carter fan! I am like obssessed with Him and the rest of the group!!

Ok as for Lou Pearlman, I dont think that he shoulda pushed the Backstreet Boys into doin more than they could..cuz they would end up loosin more in the end and plus that could put people on the verge of quittin..which they didnt thank God!! I think it was rele mean 2 bring in Nsync just to force BSB 2 do more than they could...he was treatin them like trash, not as people...after all that money they had gotten in 4 him and everything they had done...thats how they shouldve been treated? I dont think so!! I think they did have the right 2 sue Lou Pearlman...ok i dont think that everything was the Firm's fault, but there was a lot that was.

I luv Nick sooo much but i also think that he made some wrong decisions 2...ok if this was rele somethin he wanted 2 do..he coulda at least stayed with The Backstreet Boys new management to create less of a "controversy" (couldnt think of anotha word sorry). Also, since Nick is doin a solo album, it leads people 2 think that The Backstreet Boys r over. I know they r not, but it kinda relates 2 somethin i did. my sister is a Nsync fan and the first time she told me that Justins doin a solo album, the first thought that came to my mind was, YES!! they r breakin up!...i dont think that they r..but wuteva i think they r on a "extended break" LoL. SO i can see where people get that from. But i think that they shoulda gone ahead with the next album to patch up some stuff and then that woulda been the time 4 NIck to do it...i think im not an expert on this stuff LoL!!! I CANT WAIT 4 BOTH ALBUMS THO!!!! WOO HOO!! LoL

Also, I think releasin the Hits ALbum...BIG MISTAKE!! That caused lotza problems!! That rele threw people off. They shoulda waited til 2003 4 there 10 year anniversary...and maybe another name thatn "the hits" cuz thats kinda sayin like these r the hits from when WE were famous/good LoL.. i mean i no that they arent over but 2 the average person...wut could they think?

Ok i think theres a limit on this thing LoL so im gonna stop rite here or i can go on 4 a while..hope some of u agree!!

And To The New York Times, thank u soo much 4 this information..us fans rele appreciate wut u did and at least we no wuts rele goin on! We wwanna no the ups and downs and ur the ones who helped! Thank you soo much!!!!!!!!

I LUV THE BACKSTREET BOYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow. The New York Times said good stuff about our boys and that definitly makes me happy. However, Nick, Nick, Nick. LOL. I am very proud of Nick for doing this solo album, but I definitly think he needs 2 get back with the other guys and do the group stuff. the Backstreet Boys aren't the Backstreet Boys w/out Nick, and honestly if they replaced him, i dont care that AJ is my favorite i would stop listening to them. And i've always said I'd be a fan forever, but how can I be a fan if one of the guys isn't there!? Im sorry, but they would do WORSE without Nick, whether he is your favorite or not. Oh btw...I hate Nsync!!!

We're Two FRENCH FANS faithful to them since 1996,We're very sad bout' this news and we hope they'll work together again but after 10 years in this business we could understand , that the lads wanna take free time and think of their solo stuff as nick for example.....
personaly we support nick coz his solo lp is fab but we support much more bsb , we've grown up wiv them , it's because of them that the life is more easy , and , we need us !
plus, they didn't make any tour in europe since 1999 it's too long , when u r fan since their beginning.

OK , that's all we can say for the mo' just hope it's an untruth news and the lads r going to do a new fab lp

I'm shocked at like what goes on and what they had to endure, but at the same time I'm really proud 'cause it shows that the BSB's really wanted to continue to make music and make us all happy as they could have gave it all up at the first hurdle and went back to their ordinary lives. They didn't have to keep going, but they did even when the critics panned them and said it was over and they wouldnt sell another album. They also kept going after 2 got married and AJ hd his problems even though everyone said they had lost the fans cause we didnt want to listen to men that were married and had apparently "lost their sex appeal." To the so called music guru's and fat cats at the record companies, MTV and all the other places that said it was over for Backstreet, well you aint seen nothing yet and it's only just begining!!!

What do i think about that article, well, i have mixed feelings about it, i was happy because it was truthful, it showed all the crap that they've had to endure in the last 10 years, and showed that fans are still willing to stick with them. NOW why i hate it, well to start off, Lou Pearlman is a POMPUS ASS!! always has been, always will me. i hate that guy, he screws every person he works with over, he's screwed over BSB, nsync, otown, and now isn't he battling stuff with aaron, nicks brother. anyway, BSb were the ones making the money, so they are the ones that deserve it.
i know that BSB aren't as big as they used to be, but it doesn't mean theres an end to the group. Why is it the second a pop band stops selling MILLIONS of cds, stop making it onto the covers of magazines, etc, that people automatically think they are done, there are many musical acts out there, not necessarily POP, that aren't well known, but are still successful. you don't need to sell out places like the SKYDOME to be popular.

As for Nicks solo cd, its great that he wants to do it, i love him, and i am honestly excited about it, but i do agree with everyone in here that says it was just bad timing. he should be with the other 4 guys, working on the new BSB album. instead he is off doing all this solo stuff, making solo apperances, when he could be putting more of himself in the group. now don't get me wrong, i love Nick with all my heart, he's my fav, but he has bad timing when it comes to stuff like that.

Submitted by Tarra from North Carolina USA
Date: Mon Aug 19 10:40:55 2002

Ok...i have been a BSB fan since the begining. I have supporting everything they did, went to every show that came here, bought every cd, bought every video, and like everything else a fan can do. But its sad to say that i think this article just kinda confirms what i along with alot of other fans im sure didn't wanna believe which is that BSB isn't doing too good. I believe there were wrong decisions made which hurt the career of BSB. I think groups of any kind should have a say so in what happens with their career.....i think the decisions made by the former management were selfish and uncaring.
And i think that BSB were treating wrong when it came to Nsync....they should have not had Nsync thrown in their faces when someone at the management company got mad or something.

I do think releasing the greatest hits album did kinda put the thought in alot of peoples head that that cd was the end of BSB. Becuz i believe a greatest hits cd should not be released until the band is through. And thats why i think that cd was a bad idea at this point in their careers to release.

I am a huge Nick Carter fan and always have been but i do have to agree him doing a solo album right now is not a good idea. Especially when it is causing problems with the group. And i think that if ANY of them were not in the group weather it be Nick, Brian, AJ, Howie, Or Kevin that the group would just not be the same. So i think Nick should have thought about what he was doing to his career as well as the career of the other 4 guys...and i don't really think he did. And i don't think that was right. BSB can't get any work done when Nicks not there. Which makes us have to wait longer for the new BSB cd.

I can't wait for the new BSB cd and i will buy Nicks cd too. And no matter if they come back or not i will ALWAYS be a fan. And i will support all 5 guys in whatever they decide to do. And i wish them all the best and hope everything works out.
