A Fan's Opinion - No More Dissing the Boys

Date: Jul 28, 2099 Source: N.M./Two-Bit Submitted By: First of all, excuse me for saying dissed...but anyway, I'm not saying that people shouldn't have their opinions, and I'm not saying this has been a problem presently, at this site (of course not!), but hey, I want to share my opinion. And my opinion is...that I'm tired of people labeling groups like the Backstreet Boys and NSync and 98* etc as "boy bands." First of all, they're not bands, they're singing groups. They don't play instruments on their albums because they SING unlike the Offspring, who play instruments and don't sing. They are comparable to other talented non-instrument-playing groups like Boyz II Men and even soloist Micheal Jackson. ...And second of all, I don't think they should be catagorized or seen as "one" -- for example, people saying that all those boy bands are gay. I mean, they're not, it's a fact, and they do have talent. I seriously doubt that just anyone can go up onstage and "sing like a girl" or else everyone/most people would. When someone says "all those boy bands" it's such a shallow, general statement that obviously shows that the person who made the comment hasn't taken the time to listen to the groups at all. I'm not saying they should either, if the music type that these groups sing isn't your thing, it just isn't. I honestly love Limp Bizkit, Kid Rock, and a bunch of other stuff, but one day I heard the BSB on the radio, and instantly began to admire them for their talent...even before I saw their faces. This brings us to another point that I'm trying to make -- although many young girls, "teeny boppers," as people like to call them, think these groups are hot (and, well, they are for the most part...it's the truth), many people truely enjoy their music as anyone would enjoy/RESPECT other pop, rock, r&b, punk artists, or anyone else. I'm not into NSync just because I don't like their sounds or music, but I like the Backstreet Boys -- because they introduced a new type of music in a way, and each one of them has a distinctive, beautiful voice that gains my admiration and respect like no other singing group does. They dance, they sing, dress well :), act a little, and make thousands of people happy. I can't say that I can do anything even comparable that -- because I don't have that kind of talent. In conclusion, all that the Backstreet Boys do -- yes, it's called talent, it's called hard work, and it's called making music. Simple as that. But it isn't called being "gay little fags" or whatever some people like to say. Alrighty then?
