For those of you who have been watching Mtv, you would have noticed throughout this weekend, that they have been broadcasting "WoodStock '99" which is taking place in New York. I personally, am not for one...a listener of 'Alternative music'. I was still curious to know how they would have pulled of the 30th anniversary of the original Woodstock.

Woodstock, in my eyes will never be again. Though, it's cool to see how this generation is trying to recreate the original. Woodstock, was not a celebration of music nor rock-n-roll. It was a gathering of young people at a time when young men, were forced to leave there homes and serve their country in the 'Vietnam war'. So they created this event known as Woodstock, to rebel against what was going on at the time to have freedom and make peace.

I honestly, don't know what the hell this year's Woodstock is trying to say to this generation. The only conclusion's that I can come up with are as follows:

A. Celebrate the 30th anniversary of Woodstock

B. Celebrate rock-n-roll in general

C. Bring back alternative music into mainstream

D. Bring down Pop music and bsb

E. All of the above

(I would go with E.)

For those of you who didn't know, yesterday during the show when the Offspring, took stage they decided to add a little 'Entertainment' to their act. The lead singer (forgot his name) put up these 5 plastic dummies, that each represented one of the backstreet boys. He pretty much grabbed a baseball bat and totalled the dummies and with each punch he made the crowd go wild and cheered him on.

It's not the fact that he decided to disrespect the backstreet boys, but the fact that he disrespect anybody is my concern. I thought the whole purpose of 'Woodstock' was to create peace and I guess in a way celebrate music. How the hell is that celebrating music and peace?!? Did he feel the need to bash them in front of million's who would be watching?!?

This is the 30th anniversary of 'Woodstock'! You never saw Janis Joplin making fun of the beatles or Santana making fun of Jimmy Hendrix...you never saw that. It was simply about people performing for those young people. Everyone respecting and loving each other. That's what is was truly all about.

This year's Woodstock, was a complete disaster. As my mom said... "it's a complete humiliation to my generation what these kid's are trying to recreate." I have to agree with her on that. Not simply, because of the whole 'BSB' thing but in general. At the end they had fires that got started by people that ended up getting out of control, a person died, people threw plastic bottles like you would not even imagine, it was total TRASH. It was no longer a celebration of any sort but just simply....TRASH.

This generation or any in the future for that matter...should realize that 'Woodstock' is something that will never be again. For example, you can build as many replica's of the Titanic...but it will never be the same. This whole woodstock event...might as well never been called 'Woodstock '99' at all. They might as well should of called it something entirely different. It's a complete humiliation to my mom's generation and what that stood for.

Just to add to the previous comment I made about the Offspring and BSB thing...I'm not naive. I'm very aware that the guy doesn't like them. I'm not stupid. I know their are some people who just don't choose to listen to that music. But just because you choose not to hear a certain type of music, who are you to judge or have some right to bash or disrespect anyone and especially when so many (over 5 million) are watching you?!?

When do you ever hear people go on tv and like bash or say something like "oh hey...korn or metalica really suck they need to be exterminated asap..." we all have our opinion's but who are you to shove your idea's of what you hate down our throat's?!? By seeing that performance it was almost as if he was trying to brainwash everyone into thinking "bsb suck...etc.." I just hope when people watch that they won't be sucked into his view's and what he want's everyone to think of as cool.

If you want to one day hate bsb or one day decide to love them, I just hope those people will be smart enough to make there own choice's and make their own view's. If you want to hate them..do it because YOU hate them not what seem's to be the cool thing or what everyone is doing. If YOU want to love them to do because you love them not because it's the cool thing to do or what everyone is doing.

I'm not really sure what this whole letter, is trying to tell you. I'm not even sure myself, if this is coming out correctly. It's very hard to explain to you all what I feeling at the moment without going CRAZY. Which I will not do. I just lost alot of respect for that group.

I sometimes wonder if maybe he did that because he felt that his band is not good enough to go out there and just play music and still get the crowd pumped up. Hey...if you feel the need to add that sorta thing to your lineup then I feel you dont have enough confidence in yourself as a band to just go out there and play your music and still get applause from the crowd.

Either way...I'm just shocked about this year's Woodstock in general...those people who were apart of the kaotic distruction they did the last day...should all be ashamed of themselves. They tarnished what the whole purpose of what that event stood for. It's just really sad that those people ruined a good thing. Hopefully, no one will be stupid enough to make another event like that again. Seeing as how what happened I don't think this generation is mature enough to handle that responsibility.

I hope that in general..people will learn to respect each other and love each other. If you do that...then maybe just maybe we can live in a world of peace just like what the true meaning of 'Woodstock' was all about.

God Bless,

Jenny
