The Lost Boys: How a Pop Sensation Came Undone

I am sorry but NSYNC had it easy they had the doors kicked down for them by the BACKSTREET BOYS and that thing about not giving BSB a break so instead of booking them they say we will book NSYNC that is crap (don't get me wrong NSYNC is OK)And BSB did take control of their music after they got away from Lou Pearlman. I don't think leighanne caused problems between BRIAN and the guys it is just the fact that he got married and grew up(not saying Nick or everyone else didn't).Only getting married sometimes changes things. And I don't care what anyone says about me I love BSB's music it is great, and nsync is ok, but i really prefer BSB though. About the only thing in that whole article i agree with is that BSB started TRL,Teen People, and ALL the POP sensations ( I don't care what anyone says it is TRUE!!!!!) This is my opinion if you don't like it I am sorry for you!!

I honestly dont think we have anything to worry about, the reporter is just doing what the boys have always done---being honest--- and i think is great, im sure the boys have lots of good surprises for us, we just have to hold on and see.

I think the article was honest, but it sounded like bsb was breaking up. Nick has stated many times that he isn't leaving the group, it is just a side project. This article seems like he is leaving. We all know that he isn't leaving and that bsb isn't breaking up, but an someone less knowing of bsb may read this article and think that it is true. People need to be more carefull how they state certain things or they can give the wrong impression. Anyways BSB is the best! I can't wait for Nick's cd and bsb new cd to come out. They may not be in the limelight now, but they will be when their new cd is out.

Read the liner notes-BSB do not produce their songs, doesn't mean they couldn't, Nsync just took a greater interest in producing their songs first. Nsync is the first white act in over ten years to chart on the R&B charts and BET-and not just Girlfriend w/ Nelly, Gone charted high too. So to say they sing cheesy pop songs makes you very uninformed. I don't care whether you all hate Nsync-the point is that BSB need to take control and develop more. Maybe the reason we all knock Nsync (because they are really just JC and Justin) is why they work so well. It's easier for two people to manage a group then five-especially if they are very different. Nobody said they shouldn't get married they said that Leighanne was causing problems. How many sources do you people need to hear it from to realize she is. A lot of what I liked about BSB was Nick and Brian and their friendship (Frick and Frack) -since she came around the guys always seem strained together. It has nothing to do with growing up and having the right to be married, she just seem to cause a wedge between Brian and the guys. What kind of wife does that to her husband and his friends/group?

People, lots of groups still make records even though they are not on TRL or on the radio stations that only play the top 5 songs over and over again. Who cares if Nick is doing a solo album. It's been done before. The boys are grown-up and finally taking control.

I totally agree with Emily's point of view concerning the boys being up front and honest with their fans. I'm 28 and have been a fan since I was about 21 and one of the things that I've loved about them aside from the music is the fact that they make no attempt to hide anything. What would be the point. Sooner or later, the truth comes out. It's better to have it come out on your own terms.

Why is everyone so against the article? I'm a devoted fan, and I was very glad to read the article. I didn't find one part of the article insulting or degrading to any one of the Boys. The article has shed a lot of light onto the recent events the Boys have been through, and has provided us fans with a lot of logical explanations of what has been going on. Everyone is getting so upset with this reporter...he's doing his job--reporting this story in a very unbiased matter. I think it's the best article about the Boys I've ever read.

First of all! I like Nick's new single and I still consider myself a fan even though I'm going into my 20's. I may not be a huge fan as I was but I'm still a fan. These guys have been part of my life as I grew so I just can't say "oh they are out of my life now."

I think the article shows that bad things happen to good people. Yes, the boys worked very hard to get to where they are today and not everything in life comes easy. What's written shows that the boys worked their asses off and some cruel man decided he didn't like it anymore or whatever his lame reason was and that he was going to try to descruct them. Obviously it didn't work, but it still makes everyone mad. (with the exception of nsync) I believe in BSB and I think they deserve all they've earned. Not everybody is perfect but i'll tell u they are damn near close. BSB will not fall to the level of disguist that others have. They will rise and we'll be there when they do. But for now, don't believe everything u hear and see about them AND PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT CRITICIZE ANY OF THEM FOR WHAT THEY DO. Nick's new tattoo is his decision. I personally would never do that but I am not him and I will not hate him or hate ON him for doing it. Same goes for the four other hottiez.

I just wanted to say to all of you BSB fans don't forget about them. They are still here, they just need a break. I mean wouldn't you after like 8 years working non stop, I know I would need a break and would want to do my own things. I just wanted to say congrats to AJ on his going to be marriage. I'm so happy that our boys are happy with their lives and have someone special to share it with. Don't forget to buy Nick's new cd when it comes out we have to keep them #1 even if they aren't together, but as individuals. Just don't forget about our boys cause they haven't forgot about us. They love us and need us, just like we need and love them. KTBSPA :)

I think that this article explains a lot. I think what's written in the article is true, considering it was published in the New York Times! It wouldn't be published if it was full of false information. I don't think all people realize that the boys' career doesn't souly depend on them and what they want. They have to put their careers in the hands of production companies and managers and promoters. I feel bad this is what they're having to go through when all everyone wants is some good, happy music to keep us all sane. It mustn't be about money considering, like the article said, the boys are (financially) set for life. I think anything is possible with the future of this group. Nick has potential and may choose to use it as a solo act, the other guys seem to be more serious about their long term, respected career. I'll back them all with whatever they do because I've loved 'em forever, I just hope everyone who enjoys them so much, will stick by them in whatever happens in their career.

I think the article was real informative and made a lot of good points. I was real happy it focused on the facts and didn't really allow opinions in. I'm sick of the whole Backstreet/NSYNC thing. I'd really rather just try to forget about it. But I think Backstreet made a lot of wrong decisions on thir own part. They haven't made any tv appearances in how many years? Obviously if they're not goin to do it, somebody else is. So that they messed up for themselves. I don't think them not receiving their fair share of cash is right, no matter how much money they do have. No one should have to be ripped off like that. But I really do think the ticket prices were absolutely ridiculous for the Black and Blue tour. I also think their efforts stunk. I went to the Hartford shows and they made absolutely no effort to interact with thier fans. Well, I'm sorry if the dates were scheduled later and it wasn't as big as an arena as they were used to but I know this was my first Backstreet concert, and I'm sure many other peoples as well. To have paid the huge amounts of cash I did to be there cause I heard they had all this stuff and then get nothing was disappointing. I think they should spend just a lil more time out of the courts and thinking about their fans. But there is one thing that ticked me off in the article, the end where the guy mentions the Eagles and there members. Nick is irreplaceable. Everybody knows that. And I know he's staying with the group even through his solo career, but if he was to quit, that would be the end of Backstreet. No doubt.

Once again, an article written by an airhead journalist who knows nothing of what is going on with the Boys. Clearly, Nick is not leaving, and the band is not breaking up-obviously or they wouldn't be recording and setting themselves to release a new album. And apparently the author hasn't looked at the points that matter here- Nsuck breaks into the industry right after BSB and is a mirror-image copycat group and they do everything just before BSB does it. If BSB is going to release an album, Nsync releases one the week before. BSB's Burger King promotion? They get McDonald's as a sponsor and advertises a week before. Lou Pearlman swindled both groups out of the money they should have profitted from-which should tell you that you can't listen to a word he says!! And let's look at hardships-When Brian neede heart surgery, the industry and management pushed him to hold off so they could finish the tour-something that was life threatening in the first place. And when AJ went into rehab, the Boys supported him 100%, an admirable thing,to admit to the worl that he had a problem and needed help, but the industry and media attacked the group when it was the industry's fault for having pushed the Boys so hard. But the Boys will prevail.

I'd meant that they sold 4 mill worldwide :) They're like the world' biggest artists.

Nick does that suck! BSB said themselves that they were taking a break in 2002, and they've all been doing side projects. AJ had planned to go solo too, you know (although I don't know what's stopping him, I mean he's not in rehab now and I'm kinda curious to see what he sounds like) Nick is obviously no BSB but what kind of BSB fans are we if we don't support Nick?
