Alexander James McLean, You are my hero. You truly are. While I may not obsess over you and imagine myself marrying you one day, you are still my hero and always will be.
I heard about your drinking problem some months ago and feared you had a big problem. Since then I have been half anticipating something like this happening. And it did. But it was a good thing.
Checking yourself into rehab will probably save your life. Depression is a dangerous, tricky thing and I should know. I am one of its victems.
When I was 11 years old, I began to notice that I was rarely happy for a long time. Sure, I'd laugh and smile, but it would go away in a matter of minutes, settling into something deeper and darker.
By the summer of 2000, only a year after that, I was deep into its grasp. I began to cut myself as a release from my emotional pain. Well, I've kept it up for a year. I am now 13, and not in the least better.
But I will be. Your music, and you, AJ, have brought me to believe I have a chance. It's been two weeks since I last cut myself, and while the thought has entered my mind since, I haven't done it at all.
Why? Well, partially because I am in counseling, which HELPS, but also because of your music. Now this. I really am happy to see that one of us is saving ourselves. And I think that since you, my hero, are taking that step, I will, too.
Good luck, AJ McLean. I just know that you will pull through this. You are a wonderful person and an awesome guy. I pray for you every day, and now I will continue to do so, though much more than I already have been.

I'm glad that you realized that you had a problem. I really respect you for getting help. I hope that everything works out and hopefully you'll be back on tour with the guys again, soon enough and better than ever. You have alot of courage for doing what you did. AJ~ Please get better soon. I don't care if what it takes, if all the shows have to be postponed or cancelled, just please get better. I kinda know how BSB feels cause my mom has the same problem. Aj, We are all VERY proud of you for taking that big step. Even though you knew that there would be a huge fuss over this, you still took that road to help yourself. Dont EVER feel pressured to get better quickly for us, get better for yourself. I know people that have depression and now have a lot more strength and a reason to get better because of you. Dont ever feel alone cause you have 4 brothers that care about you and ALOT of fans that you've inspired. And aj, you are our shining star *

This is a bitter sweet situation. The bitter part is that they will postpone their concet dates. But the sweet part is that A.J. is finally getting help. I think A.J., the rest of the guys, and us the fans have been waiting for this moment for along time. It's a great big step for A.J. because he has been dealing with this problem for a long time and well, I can speak for all and say that its finally come and that he is finally getting the help he needs. i was never a major fan until my friend asked me to go w/ her to one of your concerts, it was on the black and blue tour. You really rocked the show and i just wanted to let u know that i am now a true fan because i realized that u put yourself in what u do. You are the man! Admitting that you have a problem, and wanting to do something about it is the most important step in getting yourself help. With the love of Christ all things are possible, just trust in him and he will provide. My dad suffered from drug and alcohol abuse, but with Christ he made it through a new man, which I am very proud of. I know that if he can do it, I am positive that you can do it. WE (Backstreet Boys fans) stand behind you, all the way. We care for you, and love you. My love, support and most of all my prayers go out to you, for you, and for your family and friends.
