Now or Never

Impressive, just one of the many words that can be used to describe "Now or Never". Nick Carter puts his heart and soul into his first solo project. One song that sticks out for me the most on this album is "Blow Your Mind". The song shows Nick's more rock side. Not only is he rockin in this album, he also keeps it "Backstreet style" with songs like "Who Needs the World" and " Do I Have to Cry For You". It is clear that Nick took his time and really worked on this album. It is one of the best projects all year!

Overall grade: A++

Why I'm Disappointed In Now Or Never

You know, as soon as I heard that Nick was doing a solo project I knew it wouldn't get too far off the ground. I vividly remember cringing when I heard he was recording. Why you ask? It's simple: His good looks couldn't carry him through a solo project.

And then my opinions started to change when I saw MTV's Making The Video for 'Help Me.' I figured it was a catchy song, but I thought that Nick's ego would get in the way. I was wrong. For the first time in a long time it seemed like Nick was genuinely happy. My confidence in the project began to grow and I couldn't wait to hear the entire album.

Then it was all over. I saw the track listing and saw 3 song titles that made my blood run cold: "Is It Saturday Yet?", "Girls In The USA," and "I Just Wanna Take You Home." How much more teenybopper can you get? The titles alone gave the critics so much fodder to bring the album down that I actually hung my head in shame. Nick, sweetheart, what were you thinking?!

Then there are the songs that promote Nick's musical growth. 'Help Me:' decent. Annoying after a while, but a decent first stab. It was safe as far as introducing the album goes. And you know what they say about first singles: safety first. The other note-worthy song on the album is the underrated 'Blow Your Mind.' With the rugged guitar riffs reminiscant of the Eurithmics "Sweet Dreams," 'Blow Your Mind' is a song that could easily be a single provided that Jive Records doesn't screw Carter over again. The other song that's not quite jaw dropping, but is a step in the right musical direction is "Miss America." Teenyboppers, close your ears for this one. The racy, sex laced song oozes of Carter's late nights on the road and skewed drinking binges. (News flash: He's not perfect!)

And then there are the Backstreet songs that Nick decided to sing. The incredibly catchy "I Got You" reeks of Backstreet right down to the video on the DVD. Not to mention the cheese filled "Who Needs The World" to close out the album. Thank God for synthesizers. "Heart Without A Home (I'll Be Yours)" sounds a little like "How Did I Fall In Love With You" from the ill fated Black and Blue album. But hey, who says you have to learn from your mistakes? Why not repeat them and get more money? Sounds like a plan that both Carter and Jive followed.

There is one more song on this album that is actually noteworthy. "Do I Have To Cry For You" is a song I'm sure Bryan Adams wished he had written, or at least bought the rights to. Carter had the business sense not to give this one up. As the next single, and if Jive tosses its attention to Carter, this one could be a big one. My message to Jive Records: Don't mess this up. This is Grammy material if radio catches it the right way and stops playing that punk crap.

All in all, this album is disappointing. I expected more songs like "Blow Your Mind" and I would have thought that Nick would have left songs like "Saturday" to his brother who can pull off the cheese factor easier because of his age. Now or Never has had the musical impact of a piece of Swiss cheese: thin on material, it has a lot of holes, and it leaves a bitter taste in your mouth.

Nick, sweetheart, what were you thinking?

Nicks New C.D. is Him Just Being Himself

I loved Nick's new c.d. because it was him doing what he wants and not what the music industry wants. His creative flare is coming out and because of that it makes it great. It's got a mix of rock but still that soulful sound of the Backstreet Boys. I love it that nick is doing his own thing and that's what makes the album great!

Nick Carter isn't Nick any longer

Nick..i've always been your # 1 fan...i love your work...i've never seen a singer who may put all his feeling in what he's singing like you do...and nick....you're so nadsome...since i was 12, i try to look alike you..when i see you on the tv, or in pictures, i try to do something to be just like you...you're make my style..always wqhen you cut your hair a way, there i go do the same thing..man.you were elected the mostbeautiful man in the world..you used to impress and to move people with your feelings, phrases and way of performing..but i have to tell you something.man.what's the deal with your new cd?it's just unrecognizable..there're some songs like scandalicious, i just wanna take you home, blow your mind, i stand for you, and mainly is it saturday yet and girls in the usa which are really really bad and nonsense..i think all of your fans expected something romantic, dramatic, beautiful..then you just cut your hair in such a strange way, make 100 tatoos on you and start to sing preppy and worked up songs...man...if you want to have an atitude, talk about unconditional love and not about teens date..waht do you want, Mr Nick Carter? you don't have to disappoint us to show how unexpectable you are...of course there're great songs like heart without a home, who needs the world, do i have to cry for you, etc..in heart without a home, you touch everybody through your beautiful voice and romantic way of singing...you defined love in such a simple way , that i really think you kinda shown to the world that true love defition isn't in complicated and paradoxal sentences... and ''who needs the world'' shows exactly what a person who is in love may think and do...but i have another not so good thing to say...man.your new video ''help me'' is just ridiculous..nick.you don't take part in any idiot and superficial rock band who wants to show how crazy they are...you are a intelligent, sensitive, good-natured and heart guy besides being so beautiful..why do you wanna get away from it?whyyyyy?why didn't you put end of forever in your album?you should have recorded songs like drowning and shape of my heart...they're so deep and beautiful...man...please.if you read this e-mail, think about it..is this what you really want?

Okay, so I have to admit I really dislike the songs Girls in the Usa, and Is it Saturday Yet. However, when I read the comments left by others, those are the only two songs that they seem to base their whole opinion of the cd on. The rest of the cd is amazing. Absolutey AMAZING. I have abeen a BSB fan since I was 13, and I have to say , I like nick's new sound, so to all the pople who say that Justin is going to be a better solo artist, they need to think again. All in all, the people who review Nick's Cd, either have a "pre-determined" opinion about Nick, and they dont give him the credit that is due!

Nick Carter's "Now or Never" is one of the best albums yet of the backstreet boys. His new single "Help Me" is an awesome song and really deserves to be titled as number 1!! I think Nick has made a lot of progress from all the trouble he's been through and the song "Help Me" talks about that. Nick's new album "Now or Never" is definetly in the top 5 of my selection! :)
