An Apt Title For An Ambitious Endeavour

It certainly is 'Now Or Never' for Nick Carter, whose ambitious solo debut hit stores on October 29, 2002. Carter doesn’t stray to far from the brand of music that he performed with the Backstreet Boys, but it is more rock driven. The song “I Got You”, penned by hit-makers Max Martin and Rami, is the closest song to Carter’s pop roots. On most other songs, Carter draws heavily from his main musical influences: 80’s pop-rock icons. The Bryan Adams-esque ballad “Do I Have To Cry For You” is surprisingly touching. “Girls In The USA” is reminiscent of Def Leppard, performed with heavy guitar riffs, and a cocky attitude. Traces of Bon Jovi appear in the florid, overemotional “Heart Without A Home.” Carter also adds more mature lyrics to his songs, like in “Miss America”, in which Carter croons, “Take it off, take it off. Let’s get it on, get it on.”

But Carter faces competition from N*Sync rival, Justin Timberlake, whose ‘Justified’ will bow in stores on November 5, 2002. But pop music’s appeal is quickly waning, making way for a new brand of singer-songwriters like guitar goddess Michelle Branch. Nick Carter adds a refreshing jolt to the dying genre. Only time will tell, but the future looks bright for the twenty-two year old.

Gone Solo

I think Nick's Now Or Never is awesome. My 2 favorite songs are Girls in the USA and Miss America. Girls in the USA sounds very similar to Def Leopards Pour Sugar on Me because it has a rock beat to it and in the line in the song it says to my Jersey Girl and that's who I am. The lyrics in Miss America are kinda revealing like "Take it off, take it off/ Let's get it on, get it on but it gives me the chills. I met Nick at Macy's on Monday and he's the sweetest person in the world. He gave me a kiss and said "I love you." I hope to meet him again soon and I think he will be successful as a solo artist.

"Now or Never" is an amazing album. The vocals are awesome and the lyrics are great. I honestly can't pick a favorite song. Everytime I think I have a favorite, I listen to another song, and I can't decide. I love the ballads, they are truely breathtaking. I can't tell you how exicted I am that "Do I Have To Cry For You" is the next single. I always get teary eyed when I listen to it. This cd is not leaving my cd player anytime soon!!
