This year we took our Readers Poll online, where more than 30,000 voters went wild, along with the 1,000 more who voted via snail mail. Their ballots made clear how loyal Backstreet Boys fans are but also made room for Trent Reznor’s noise rock, Eminem’s sicko comedy and Limp Bizkit’s rap-metal thrash. As 1999 proved, one of the exciting things about rock & roll is thatgreat songs can blast out of anywhere on the map.
