We love this time of year -- a time to reflect, relax, eat fruitcake. And of course, a time to compile, make lists, re-read scores of news items, gossip tidbits, and reviews to come up with what we deemed some of the most memorable musical moments in the past 365 days and attach some sassy (OK, we were serious about a few of them) superlatives to them. Here is Part I of our "Not So Serious Look Back at '99":

Sure Sign The Devil Exists: Lou Pearlman, creator of Backstreet Boys, 'NSync, and 98 Degrees.

Or, for our readers under 17-years-old: Sure Sign That God Exists: Lou Pearlman, creator of Backstreet Boys, 'NSync, and 98 Degrees.

Best Radio Moment: Courtney Love on The Howard Stern Show spouted off a little anti-Grohl ditty in response to "Stacked Actors," the Foo Fighters song she believes to be about her.

Best Ways To 'Think Outside The Box': Master P's sports company, Garth Brooks got in the batting cage, and all those other rappers' clothing lines.

Best Proposed Idea: Snoop Dogg's Doggyland in his hometown of Magnolia, Mo. Just think -- Drive-By Bumper Cars. Low-Rider Racers. Gin & Juice stands!

Best Music TV Moments: All of VH1's Behind the Music shows and R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe as the Christmas Fairy on Saturday Night Live Dec. 11, which featured this line out of his mouth, "Just remember, everybody hurts… now let's go shopping."

Best Star Trip: Yeah! Opera stars pull star trips too! Kathleen Battle was "late, icy, unapologetic, and aloof" at her May Jamaica concert where she shooed away photographers who were hired to document the event.

Most Unfortunate Situation: Woodstock '99.

Most Unfair Situation: Marilyn Manson's name was brought into the terrible Columbine tragedy.

Most Hopeful Situation: Stone Temple Pilot's troubled lead singer Scott Weiland got one year in jail on drug charges.

Best Return To Rock: John Frusciante rejoined the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Biggest Drop From No. 1 On The Billboard 200: Nine Inch Nails' The Fragile. It's fall from No. 1 to No. 16 was the farthest in the history of the chart.

Biggest Debut Of The Year On The Billboard 200: Backstreet Boys' Millennium's first week sales of 1.13 million in May broke Garth Brooks' previous record for the most albums moved in its first week out.

Best Music Industry Resume We Never Knew Existed: Limp Bizkit's Fred Durst. He became Vice President of Interscope Records.

Strangest Words Of, Uh, Wisdom: "We are at war. It feels good. Love fades but hate is forever." -- Marilyn Manson, as posted on his message board in June.

Best Spoken Word Performance: Nicole Blackman, Jerry Stahl, and Lydia Lunch at Luna Park in Los Angeles in November.

Best Collaboration: Santana's Supernatural featuring Matchbox 20's Rob Thomas, Everlast, Lauryn Hill, and others.

Best-Selling Band No One Can ID In A Lineup... Still: Creed

Best Duds: Tie: Lil' Kim's purple outfit with the patch over her boob at the MTV Video Music Awards, and Shania Twain's Pepto-Bismol pink outfit at the Country Music Association Awards.

Most Insane Moment of 1999: Garth Brooks as Chris Gaines.

Check out allstar on Monday (Dec. 20) for Part II of our Not So Serious Look Back At '99.
