Hi Caitlin!

I have no idea what you're going to do with this, but I had to write. I just wanted to say that I disagree with the readers who wrote in saying that the Trans-Con. auditions are unfair. It's not just an open call for any and all talent. They are looking for a particular type of person (in this case males). I realize a lot of girls out there want to be popstars (I do too!) but just because they're doing a search for a boyband doesn't mean they're being sexist. If they think a boyband is what will sell that's their decision, it's a BUSINESS and they have no obligation to invest their money in females if they choose not to. It's not like they're saying 'girls suck, we don't want them' just because they're looking for guys. It's just like a casting call for a movie or commercial, they always have a certain type (especially gender) in mind already. Saying that it's sexist and unfair for Trans-Con to only look for males is ridiculous.

After all can you honestly say you'd be fighting for the males if this was a search for JUST females? and what if the auditions WERE open to EVERYONE and they ended up picking 5 guys anyway? Would that be unfair and sexist too? And those 'aspiring singers' have to accept the fact that the music industry isn't exactly a moral playground, but if a person had real talent they'd find success one way or another. Even IF they had to fight an unfair battle to get there.

Hi there...

Now, correct me if i'm wrong, but the whole talent search thing is for a special on tv, right? If i'm wrong, please disregard this email... So, if it's supposed to be for a special, to my understanding, it's focus is on the growing trend of boy bands. After reading some of the responses to April's article from other readers, i don't think anyone has any right to be offended. it's not unfair, and it's not a sexist act, since the only reason that they are doing this search is for a special based on boy bands. It's really not a big deal, there are tons of auditions out there that actually are applicable to girls and perhaps not guys... there are going to be auditions that'll apply to you, and others that don't... it's part and parcel of the whole performing arts deal... So, suck it up girls! there'll be other auditions!

Thanks for hearing me out

Leigh
