Posted by Karen Stapley The Backstreet Boys will be performing together on stage for the first time in three years on September 11 aboard the ocean liner Queen Mary in Long Beach. The performance is an effort to raise money for two special causes, "911 for Kids" and the "Dorough Lupus Foundation."

A tribute to heroes is an international concert honoring remarkable heroes from September 11, according to its website www.fortheloveofchildren.org. There will also be dinner and a silent auction.

Proceeds will benefit public safety, health education, and support service programs for 911 for Kids and the Dorough Lupus Foundation.

Dorough Lupus Foundation was started by Howie Dorough, a member of the Backstreet Boys, at the height of his success after he lost his sister to the disease.

Lupus Disease is an autoimmune disorder which turns the body's defenses against itself. Antibodies attack the healthy cells in the body, according to Dorough.

"It is the opposite of AIDS", said Dorough.

It affects organ systems, skin, joints, and internal organs. Although both men and women can get Lupus, the disease is eight times more common in women than men.

"This is my first fundraising venture in Los Angeles, and I am really excited. It will be a really fun night," said Dorough. "I really encourage people to learn more about the disease, which is not well known despite being more common than AIDS in America."

Dorough has also started a support group in Orlando, his hometown.

"I wanted to turn losing my sister into something positive. I want to use my celebrity status to make a difference and bring awareness to the disease," said Dorough, "If people are aware of it they can try to prevent it. If I can save one person it is all worthwhile."

Jillian Barberie, the host of Good Day LA will be hosting the event.

R&B group Boys II Men, and country music's rising start Kellie Coffey are just some of the other talented musicians that will be performing that night.

The Dorough Lupus Foundation has already raised over half a million dollars for research which was donated to UCLA's research center.

Tickets range from $45 to $2,500. To support this worthwhile cause and have a fabulous evening on a legendary landmark with celebrities and musicians go to www.fortheloveofchildren.org or call 562-438-5905.
