Date: Mar 10, 2001 NEW YORK (AP) — There will be a new Who in Whoville next month. Teen pop star Aaron Carter joins the cast of “Seussical,” the Broadway musical celebration of the works of Dr. Seuss, on April 4 for a five-week run through May 6. The 13-year-old will play JoJo, the littlest Who, a lad who runs away from home and finds himself in the army. “For 6- to 12-year-old girls, Aaron is like Mick Jagger,” “Seussical” producer Barry Weissler said Thursday. “Our show is for children and their families and what could be better than having a performer kids love?” Carter, whose older brother is Nick Carter of the Backstreet Boys, started his musical career at age 7 as lead singer for the band Dead End. He released his first single, “Crush on You,” in 1997, followed by “Crazy Little Party Girl,” “I’m Gonna Miss You Forever” and “Shake It.” Carter is only the latest in a series of celebrities to join “Seussical.” Gymnast Cathy Rigby arrives as the Cat in Hat March 15, and talk show diva Rosie O’Donnell played the feline role for four weeks earlier this year.
