Date: Dec 16, 2000 Source: The Minnesota Daily Submitted By: Emily Breunig Friday, December 15, 2000 The latest Supreme Court decision has effectively handed over the presidency to George "shrub" Bush, and the nation appears to be facing four tumultuous years of governance. A solution, however, has presented itself and appears to be the best way for our country to unify and heal after this terrible ordeal. With this in mind, we must tearfully retract our presidential endorsement of Harry Browne -- who undoubtedly would have emerged victorious in this election if recounts had gone forward in Vermont and Puerto Rico -- and with much glee and girlish screaming, we now endorse the Backstreet Boys for the office of the president. The boys clearly have the support and devotion of a large segment of the populace. They have released and sold more than 11 million copies of their epic compact disc, "Millennium," and about 750,000 tickets were purchased in the span of one hour for their 53-show tour. Let's see Bush or Gore top that! Neither one of those old geezers could match the star power that the boys could bring to the Oval Office. Respect -- as well as catcalls -- would no doubt flow through the White House when the boys take control of our government's executive arm. The appeal they have is no doubt partly due to their good looks and stylin' apparel choices. From the badass looks they give the girls on stage, to those love serenades they belt out in moments of passion, the boys are always on the top of their game. Every time you see them in public, its like they just walked out of a fashion magazine! They will assuredly be able to bring peace to this conflict-ridden world with just a few suave moves, no doubt impressing all of the world's leaders. One of their most important qualities is, of course, Nick's tender ass. Being the youngest of the boys means that his peers must constantly supervise him. This of course, prevents him from flaunting his backside at their shows. But we know that his buttocks could become a powerful weapon during diplomatic maneuverings. Forget about Gore's extensive knowledge of foreign events and Bush's inability to locate the U.S. on a map, get Nick's behind on the negotiating table, and we would have a winner. This entire Arab-Israeli conflict could be solved in about 3 minutes if Nick would just shake his thang for Yasir Arafat and Ehud Barak, who would quickly see what the world really has to offer them. Male elements of the population may not be as quick to embrace the boys as our leaders, but the choice is clear. If we must choose between four more years of Bush Gore and tantalizing moves and sexy voices of what the Boys have to offer, the choice is clear. Long live America and long live the Backstreet Boys!
