Date: Nov 14, 2000 [They did this interview on 11.11 right before they went onstage performing on “Wetten, daß...?!” The interviewer’s name is Jessica, a German VJ, in the following “J”. I think she was a bit nervous, cuz her English wasn’t really at its best...lol =) Anyways, I didn’t understand every word, so sometimes there are these: [?], that’s when one or two words are missing. It was an interview on real player, but the pic was really blurry and slow, so I hope I recognized everybody right, they sounded so similar sometimes and the German translation posted on the site I got it from wasn’t really a big help. So forgive me if something seems illogical to you. But the boys weren’t really logical anyways...] Jessica: You’re back to Germany...Are you happy being back to Germany? Kevin: It’s good to be back Jessica: Yeah? Kev: Yeah J: How long was it ago that you came to Germany? Howie: I think we calculated it was over a hundred days since last time we were here, and...since last tour. Unfortunately...no, fortunately for us we’ve been able to spend time [?] around whole world so we try to get to as many places as possible Kev: You and AJ... Howie: As a group, yeah AJ and myself were here in May J: I know, I saw you, it was at VIVA and there was this crazy girl jumping on you. Did she hurt you? AJ: Nah, she hurt my neck a little bit, but it wasn’t that big deal. It’s not that she kinda ripped me up and croaked my neck. She put me on the ground, she jumped over my security, who’s a pretty big guy and put me on the ground. J: It was incredible, cuz I think there were like 8 securities guys or 16 even and it was like incredible that she came through that whole gates. She was a wild thing....So, it’s amazing cuz you’re gonna be in 5 different continents in 6 days. Is that true? Nick: Yup. First time everybody’s ever done that. And we hope we’ll make it. It could be very interesting, very long. I think it’s a total of 48 hours? 48 hours, and 6 continents [note: someone should really tell them that there are only 5 continents...]...and I think...Kevin knows the dates. J: Kevin? Kev: I know what? The dates? We’re gonna start off.......on the 19th, and from the 19th to the 21st...we’ll start off in Tokyo, Japan, Sydney, Australia, Marakesh, Kap Horn, South Africa, Hamburg, Germany, South America...What’re you shaking your head about? Howie: You’re totally wrong. Nick: Actually.... Kev: That’s not the order, but the... (a lot of confusion and discussing) Nick: ...Just the dates. So basically we’re having a press conference in...Kevin where’s the press conference? Brian: We’re not going to Marakesh and we’re not going to Hamburg. Nick: But everybody... Howie: We’re starting off in Sweden, going to Tokyo, Australia, then we’re going to South Africa. Then we’re going to South America and ending off in New York (clapping in the background and “Yeah!”, I think it was Kevin) J: Huh! We’ve got it! Kev: When did we take out Marakesh? (Nick says something almost inaudible to Kevin) Nick: Okay... J: Okay...but is there like any of these countries you’re really happy that you can go to? Do you have any... Kev: I’m excited about South Africa J: You’ve been there before? Kev: No, never been to Africa. I’m excited about that. J: You should go to the Table Mountains. Kev: We’re like...landing, for like 2 hours, 3 hours, we’re going to the Table Mountains to take a picture, do a press conference and then we’re boom, out (whistles) Nick: I’m looking forward to Tokyo again J: Yeah? Nick: Ya know, we haven’t been there in almost...3 years? Kev: 5 Nick: About...4 or 5 years J: And Japanese fans are... Nick: Well actually the Japanese fans are very conservative over there and... J: And they’re really quiet, aren’t they? AJ: [?] They’re not screaming and yearning the whole time. They listen, which is pretty cool and everyone has a camera, everyone. J: Yeah, I know, I went to Tokyo and I was at a Bryan Adams concert and the people all were like (claps her hands), it was really like...really quiet Nick: Ya know, [?] much like listening to your music and studying, cuz you know we’re studying our music and we study our [?] ‘s music, too. J: and...you’re like...2 of you got married, do you have a girlfriend right now? Nick: Actually this is the first time that...just two of us are married...Brian and Kevin...AJ, Howie and myself we’re all single for the first time. (Brian’s laughing in the background) J: What are you laughing about? Brian: No, he just...you know...making sure everybody knows he’s single. Nick (in the background): I wanna let everybody know J: Girls, out there... Nick: You can promote it! Brian: 2 are down and 3 more bachelors Howie (?): Single, single! J: And how did the fans go along with you both getting married? Brian: They have been very very supportive. I’ve done quite a bit surfing on the internet just to find out what they’re talking about and 99.9% of the percentage of fans we come across are very congratulative...and...erm...they’re supporting us. It’s nice to know they know we’re happy, and they’re happy for us. J: Last year we heard that you may wanna split, which is absolutely...but are there any... Nick: We heard that because we took some time off and some of us were doing some individual things, like AJ was doing a little bit of Noname Johnnny...Johnny Noname...whatever... J: You guys maybe one day wanna make...like solo things? Kev: Maybe eventually...We wanna give each other the time and the room to do some individual things. But I don’t think that’s in our plans for right now...later J: Are you scared...when in 1996 Take That split they had this hotline for suicide, people who were...ya know...just went crazy. Are you scared when you hear something like that? That [fans] maybe wanna kill themselves? Kev: That’s already happened when there was a big rumor that we were gonna break up, they supposed they had a bunch of people saying they were gonna kill themselves. I mean that’s just...it made us angry at the media for putting a rumor out like that, ya know? Howie: Something that’s good is that we’re honest , we let people know that there might come a time when we wanna do individual stuff. Ya know, a couple of us did when we had some time off: Maybe wanna go acting, or do producing or you know, do solo stuff. But that’s something that we’re always...we’re honest with the fans, we’re not gonna say that we’ll be around forever, there’s never an end, because it’s hard to say that, nothing is guaranteed. But we’re very happy with what we’re doing. If there was a time where we probably would go and take some time off , we’d all get back together and do like...reunion tours, something like that. J: You’re going on World tour (says something to Nick, Nick laughs and replies, but I don’t know what exactly they’re talking about)...you’re going on world tour next year. Is that something you’re really happy about? Nick: Yeah...I mean...one thing I’m really happy about is we’re not doing it in the round again. I mean the round was a beautiful...a beautiful thing that nobody has done before...and ya know, we’re going back to an end stage which is...Ya know, we’re all facing forward to go back to the old Backstreet style, like we first did, so it’s gonna be fun that we... AJ (interupts): Cuz... Nick: Excuse me? (AJ and Nick start talking at the same time) AJ: No, say it Nick: No, I’m just saying because we’re actually gonna be dancing together, cuz on the round stage we never...the times we performed we performed separate. So now we’re all gonna be dancing together. Brian: I think we’re all looking forward to getting back together on the road and doing it again because this is our life and this is what we do and we enjoy it so much. The fans enjoy it and we wanna give them what they want. J: Is it...do you guys still get along with each other? Even though you’re hanging together such a long time together? Brian: I think we’re the tightest we’ve ever been in our whole career. Just because we spent some of the best years of our lives together and we’re grown up together and now we’re all grown men and you know we have different respects (Nick starts laughing)..well, maybe not you Nick: I’m sorry, I’m sorry. I’m only joking. Brian: We respect each other differently now, ya know, we respect each other in all kinds of ways , emotionally, physically, the way we think about things mentally and stuff...so we have a new common ground. J: And 2002 you guys wanna be a little bit more quiet for a little while or do your own things, so what is everyone one of you gonna do? You wanna just settle down a little bit, like sitting in front of the TV just relaxing... Nick: We really don’t know what’s gonna happen when it comes, because we take...we take... the whole time in our career we tried not to plan too far ahead...ya know, we’ve got a world tour that’s gonna bring us all the way probably to December and we try to balance...ya know... you never know what will happen, we might drop another album...we might...you never know. J: Yeah, I mean...where do you get the motivation from? You’re making your comic strips, you’re investigating in real estate...I mean there are so many things, I don’t know if it’s just yellow press, but there are a lot of things going on. Where’s the motivation, you’re working so hard with still so many things to do beside? Kev: We have a lot of opportunities , you know we have a lot of opportunities being in this industry, a lot of other doors to the acting world the producing world, investments, developments, developing real estate...I mean, we made a lot of good connections...you know we’re working and we like to work. We enjoy experimenting in doing new things, so... J: And you also got a new label? What’s gonna happen with that? AJ: We have no actual name to the label yet, we’re still trying to find one, but we got a...we have our very first artist, Krystal Harris, and hopefully she’ll come with us on the world tour. She’s got an incredible voice , she writes her own music, plays the piano, she got a really unique look...and hopefully we can expand out and find some more artists. We just wanna get back to artists what we...ya know...didn’t get with our record company and with different things to make sure that they get the best possible deal and the opportunities that we have to be successful and to fulfil our dreams. J: This is really great. I’m looking forward to it and thanks a lot for coming. Brian: what do you think of the new single? J: I love it. I was just singing it the whole time. Brian: Have ya listened to the new album yet? J: No, not yet. When is it coming out? Nick: It comes out the 20th of this month. J: Okay, great. Brian: What is that? 9 days? 10 days? (checks his watch) Huh! 9 days! Nick: Ya know, I’m happy, it’s nice to have a new album, cuz the album is a little but different, it’s a little bit unique and that’s a growth for us. It’s gonna be interesting to see how they’re gonna perceive us. J: I know I’m gonna get it. Yeah, and I hope you have a great show out there! [That’s it. The had to go performing then. Some things they said in the background I didn’t really get acoustically, so I just left them out. But there weren’t that important I think.]
