Date: Apr 12, 2000 What was AJ McClean up to last night? He was performing a solo gig in NYC--and we were there! Get all the dirt from the performance including how AJ REALLY feels about 'N Sync's recent success! As CG! Daily Scoop recently reported, AJ McClean of the Backstreet Boys took on the persona of British rock star Johnny No Name and headed out on a nine-stop tour. Last night, CG! was there for all the action when AJ, uh we mean Johnny, took the stage at NYC's Irving Plaza. A litte background on Johnny No Name: He only performs when he is on parole from his jail sentence (he came on stage in handcuffs that his "parole officer" then removed). And, he's definitely influenced by that naughty Brit spy Austin Powers--Johnny's motto is "Be cool, be real and beeeeHAVE!" Mr. No Name went from hard rockin' versions of songs like "Down" by Stone Temple Pilots to a pelvic-thrusting rendition of BSB's "Hey Mr. DJ (Keep Playing That Song)" to a heart-melting cover of "Back to One" by Brian McKnight. Johnny even sang a song AJ wrote for "Millennium" called "If You Knew What I Know" that Jive dropped from the album. Johnny had no problems saying what was really on his mind. He dissed BSB's record label, Jive, made fun of all the Backstreet Boys (from Kevin's bushy eyebrows to Nick's video game fetish) and as a tribute to AJ's nickname "Bone," he sang "Bad to the Bone." Johnny announced that the Backstreet Boys were going away for a while to record a new album and when that album was released, the "other" boy bands would go "Bye, Bye, Bye!" For his finale, AJ came out as himself and brought down the house with the classic tune "Brick House." He was joined on stage by his opening act Nobody's Angel and a surprise guest--his BSBmate Howie D. You can catch ALL the guys together again next week on VH1's "Men Strike Back." And according to VH1.com, you can catch him as an alien on the season finale of "Roswell." -- Lauren Brown
