Backstreet Boys, Perry Farrell Tribute Stan Lee

Date: Mar 02, 2000 Source: MTV Submitted By: 3.2.00 10:15 EST The Backstreet Boys, former Jane's Addiction and Porno For Pyros frontman Perry Farrell, and President Clinton were among those showing support for comic book icon Stan Lee's new Internet venture during a party at Raleigh Studios in Los Angeles on Tuesday night. Farrell took to the stage alongside soul singer Chaka Khan to perform at the event, which was held to commemorate both the launch of Lee's new youth-oriented Web site as well as the premiere "Webisode" of Lee's new Internet comic, "The 7th Portal." The Backstreet Boys paid tribute to Lee via a pre-taped message, as the band is currently in the midst of a North American tour that isn't scheduled to end until March 15 in Toronto, Ontario. Lee and the Backstreet Boys recently teamed up to launch a super-hero comic and Web-based series, a project that the Boys' own Nick Carter is overseeing for the group (see "Backstreet Boys, Stan Lee To Launch Super Hero Comic"), a project that the Boys' own Nick Carter is overseeing for the group. For the event, President Clinton wrote a letter to Lee recognizing his pop culture accomplishments, which include helping co-create Spider-Man, The Fantastic Four, Silver Surfer, The X-Men, and other classic characters for Marvel Comics during the 1960s. -- David Basham Comment on this item.
