Plain and simple. I’m tired of critics bashing on the likes of teenage pop fans around the world. What’s wrong with Pop music? You know, music where people actually use their voices to sing in beautiful melodies and harmonies, not where people bash their guitars into the stage and scream their "lyrics." Is there really anything wrong with liking pop music?

Some people automatically think, if you like pop music you’re a teenage girl. True enough, that’s what I am. But the other day I was looking through my dad’s CD collection and came across Britney Spears, the two Backstreet Boys albums, and yes, even two Spice Girl’s albums. Sure, even I laughed at the Spice Girl’s albums but what the hey! He likes the music! And gasp, he’s not some obsessive teenage girl with posters of the Backstreet Boys covering the walls of his room (*cough* likehisdaughter *cough*). But that’s not all in his collection he also has come country and many, many rock albums. Sure, he’s probably not going to send a FANatic tape to MTV to meet Britney Spears any time soon, but he’s not ashamed to buy the CD’s. Many adults are the same as he is.

Again, what is wrong with pop music? I bet 99.9% of the teens in my high school know the chorus to "I Want it That Way," most of the teachers probably know it too. However, here come the not so heartfelt critics of today’s hit music. They bash on the Backstreet Boys, ‘N Sync, and Christina Aguilera just as if they were they were on the top 10 wanted list for stealing all of Bill Gates’ money. "They don’t really sing." "They just do it for the money." "Grammy nominated? That’s a pile of sh*t if I ever saw one."

Pop musicians are music artists just like Santana is. Sure they haven’t been around as long as he has but they’re not just some flash in the pan. The Backstreet Boys have been around for 7 years now. I think they’ve extended their once thought ’15 minutes of fame’ to be fully respected by more people.

I once read someone’s comment about the Rolling Stone reader’s poll, how BSB just won because of all the "Click-happy Teenage Girls." Ok, so what’s stopping you from becoming click-happy yourselves and getting your favorite artist on top? Have you ever really thought, just once, that maybe the boys did deserve these recognitions? And their fans were happy to give it to them?

Sure, the Boys didn’t win a Grammy but they gave a couple hell of performances. They put their heart and soul into their music. If it takes a few heavy metal guitars and some head banging during their concert to gain them respect, I’ll be happy enough to go up on stage with them, break a few guitars and kill a few brain cells by head banging to "All I have to Give."

They don’t play their own instruments. Fine. Who says they have to? Although, they play the most important instrument of them all, your voice. Not everyone has to play an instrument to be in a group. I don’t see people making fun of solo artists and rap artists who don’t play instruments. They make their own music that they like and many people like as well. Another thing, so they don’t write their own music. Ok...sooo? Your point? I believe the BSB along with other artists work as a team with their song writers. If you feel the need to bash on the lack of the artists not writing their own music, you might as well tell it to the writer’s faces. I’m sure that makes them feel loved. If the music’s good, if the lyrics are good, and the voices are good, the group is good.

So chill with saying stuff like "The Backstreet Boys suck" or "They don’t play their own instruments, they’re not a real group." Because although they’ve never been gone, Backstreet’s Back and dammit, they’re here to stay.
