Teens' Grammy Choices: BSB, Britney and ... a Boomer?

Backstreet Boys Overwhelm, but Carlos Santana Wins Too

SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Regardless of what's inside the envelopes at the Grammy Awards Wednesday night, America's teens have picked the Backstreet Boys' song "I Want It That Way," and the group's album "Millennium" as their choices for Best Song, Best Record, Best Album and Best Pop Album for 1999, according to an online survey conducted by AWZ.com (www.awz.com), a grassroots online community empowering teens to express, interact, engage, and discover.

The online survey of over 2000 at the teen website also picked Britney Spears over fellow teen diva -- and former Mickey Mouse Club costar -- Christina Aguilera as Best New Artist. It was close: among the teens Spears got 37 percent to Aguilera's 33 percent. The next closest was shock-rocker Kid Rock with 11 percent.

The boy band's strongest competition didn't come from someone in their age group, it came from '60s veteran Carlos Santana, whose album "Supernatural" was the teens' pick as Best Rock Album. The album finished second to "Millennium" as the teens' choice for Album of the Year. "Smooth" from the Santana album was teens' second choice behind "I Want It That Way" for Best Song and Best Record, beating out pop sensation Ricky Martin's "Livin' La Vida Loca" in both categories.

The survey chose six categories and was conducted over four days in the week before the Grammy awards. AWZ.com is the fastest growing teen site on the web, and will make a series of announcements in the coming weeks.
