Date: Feb 19, 2000 Backstreet Boys come back for more screams Miriam Longino - Staff Friday • February 18 Imagine if the St. Louis Rams were so pumped about their Super Bowl victory that they decided to put their uniforms back on, return to the Georgia Dome and sell tickets. That's essentially what's happening Saturday as the nation's hottest concert act, the stylishly syncopated Backstreet Boys, bring their record-breaking tour back to Atlanta for yet another sold-out night of pyrotechnics and pop hits. Although billed as the "Into the Millennium Tour," the show is basically the same one the Boys staged at Philips Arena in November, except with twice as many fans to squeal through the 20-song set. The original allotment of tickets sold out almost immediately, but additional seats have been put on sale. For those of you who missed the Boys on their last visit, here's a preview of what's likely to happen when 65,000-plus fans experience them in the Dome: The crowd: The seats will be filled mostly by elementary school children and teenage girls holding teddy bears and green glow sticks. (A lot of their 30-ish parents will be along, too --- and they secretly know the words to all the hits.) The setup: The concert is "in the round," which means the stage will be set up in the center of the Dome, allowing the Boys to point and wink at all four corners. Binoculars are ecommended. Intermission: Comes after a short opening act, about 20 minutes --- plenty of time to purchase items such as a BSB "Comin' Atcha" T-shirt ($19.99), fingernail tattoos ($3.99) or a millennium pencil ($5.99). Start looking for the BSB when: The lights dim and the theme from "Star Wars" booms through the speakers. First sighting: After a parade of dancers arrives carrying lighted poles, look up. The Boys materialize high above the crowd, suspended near the ceiling. On boogie boards. Really. The Boys: A.J. McLean (22), Nick Carter (20), Brian Littrell (24), Kevin Richardson (27) and Howie Dorough (26). Also onstage: Ten dancers and a six-piece band. Most screams: The group's blond cherub, Carter, gets them. Most sentimental moment: During a tune called "The Perfect Fan," the Boys haul five mothers and daughters onstage, dance with the girls and present a rose to each of the moms. Words most frequently used in BSB lyrics: ''Body,'' ''everybody,'' ''backstreet,'' ''back,'' ''backstreet's back'' and ''sex-yoo-aahll.'' The reviews say: The show is Disney meets Motown, with The New York Times, Newsweek and others giving the Boys high marks for their professionalism and ability to entertain. In short, they're winning almost everybody over. Even cynical critics.
