BACKSTREET BEAT: By extending its stay at No. 1 on The Hits chart for another week, "Show Me The Meaning Of Being Lonely" does something that the other two chart-topping singles from the Backstreet Boys' "Millennium" album weren't able to do: stay on top for more than one week. The sole-week curse first came in July 1999 when "I Want It That Way" went to No. 1 for seven days after spending five straight weeks in the runner-up spot. Then the follow-up, "Larger Than Life" also spent a single week on top in November 1999. However, "Show Me The Meaning Of Being Lonely," with two weeks to its credit, has two more weeks to go to become the Boys' longest-running No. 1 single. That distinction still goes to "As Long As You Love Me," which stayed at the top for three straight weeks in January 1998.
