WALTHAM, Mass.--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--Jan. 25, 2000--The following information is from The Lycos 50(TM), the 50 most popular user searches for the week ending January 22, 2000. For a complete list of The Lycos 50 (TM) and for in-depth text of The Lycos 50 Daily Report, go to http://50.lycos.com.

The Lycos 50(TM) Top 10 Search Terms For The Week Ending Jan. 22, 2000

1) Pokemon 6) Pamela Anderson
2) Britney Spears 7) Martin Luther King, Jr.
3) Dragonball Z 8) American Music Awards
4) Lunar Eclipse 9) Backstreet Boys
5) WWF 10) Jennifer Lopez

Notes of Interest:

The January 20th lunar eclipse ranked number four in Web user interest last week, the most popular of the recent celestial events. The failed Mars Polar Lander expedition made it to number seven in December while the Leonid Meteor hit number 10 in November and last summer's solar eclipse was number eight in August. The American Music Awards was wildly popular with users, perhaps due to the dresses worn by Britney Spears and Mariah Carey. About 10 percent of the AMA searches mentioned one of the two stars. Users didn't appear to care as much about the Golden Globe Awards. Even the Boston Globe got more searches than the Golden Globes last week.

Hottest Rising Star:

Regis returns as ``Who Wants to be a Millionaire'' is back on The Lycos 50 this week, resurfacing at number 31. The show was last on our list on December 1.

Biggest Rise:

Tennis star Anna Kournikova (#29) jumps 14 spots as the Australian Open gets underway.

Biggest Drop:

The White House is slipping, down 16 notches to number 46 on this week's Lycos 50.
