In reading Backstreet.net, my favorite web site about the BSBs, I'm appalled by some of the news articles and critical reviews I read about the Backstreet Boys. These writers and critics seem to always emphasize the most trivial aspects of the Backstreet Boys. Yes, I agree that teenagers are crazy about them, and yes, the guys are "cute." But there is so much more to them. They have charisma, style and personality, and they are decent and family-oriented young men who work hard and produce wonderful entertainment. Their dancing and showmanship are great, and I love the devotion they show to BSB fans all over the world. These attributes are hard to pin-down and explain to the critics and nay-sayers who relegate the BSB to the category of bubblegum pop or "boy" bands. The Backstreet Boys can SING. It's their music that stands out; it's their music that brings so much happiness to so many loyal fans. It's the blending of those five individual voices that makes the truly unique sound of the Backstreet Boys. No one can duplicate them in musicality or the emotion they put into their songs. The "Show Me The Meaning" video demonstrates the maturity that the BSBs have developed over the last year. I thought of these issues as I drove into work today, listening to Millennium. "Don't Wanna Lose you Now" was playing, and I marvelled at the harmonies of the BSBs. In my mind, I compared their singing to liquid honey--pure and smooth and sweet. When "Back to Your Heart" came on, I noticed how the Boys' voices matched perfectly as they sung their hearts out. I was thrilled when I first heard "SMTMOBL"--what talent in those lovely voices, what drama, what absolute beauty! The fact that each member of the group has his own excellent singing voice just enhances the whole sound of the Backstreet Boys as a group. I have come to appreciate that more and more, how each Backstreet Boy has a wonderful singing voice. I wish these very talented men would get the respect they deserve. Oh, I know, they are making lots of money, etc., etc. (why do so many people emphasize that?), but to me the main contribution the Backstreet Boys group has made to the world of entertainment is their wonderful music. It's the music above everything else that makes the Backstreet Boys who they are. I reiterate that statement: It's the Music!
