RCA Records Teams with NARAS to Release Sixth Annual GRAMMY Nominees Albums

2000 GRAMMY Nominees CD Due in Stores February 8 While 2000 GRAMMY Rap Nominees CD Arrives February 15

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- RCA Records is set to join forces with the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences (the Recording Academy), to release a pair of 2000 GRAMMY Nominees albums, the sixth set in an annual series honoring many of the year's GRAMMY-nominated artists and songs. This year, two compilations will be released. The 2000 GRAMMY Nominees CD features tracks by such esteemed artists as Ricky Martin, Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears and Backstreet Boys, and will be released February 8. The 2000 GRAMMY Rap Nominees CD features tracks by such rap and hip-hop artists as Busta Rhymes, Eminem, Nas and The Roots, and will be released in clean and explicit versions on February 15. The announcement was made today jointly by NARAS president/CEO Michael Greene, Bob Jamieson, President of RCA Records, and Jack Rovner, Executive Vice President and General Manager, RCA Records. The 42nd Annual GRAMMY Awards, to be broadcast live on CBS, will be held at Los Angeles' Staples Center on February 23.

Each CD contains several of the most widely-recognized GRAMMY categories. Song selections from the 2000 GRAMMY Nominees CD represent nominees from the Record of the Year, Best New Artist, and Best Pop Vocal Performance categories. The 2000 GRAMMY Rap Nominees CD represents nominees from Best Rap Solo Performance, Best Rap Performance Duo or Group and Best Rap Album categories.

Said RCA Records President Bob Jamieson, ``We are honored and thrilled to be working with NARAS President Mike Greene on this valuable project. Music fans and industry people alike eagerly await these albums every year, and we're looking forward to making this the most successful release in the series to date.''

Added Jack Rovner, ``This is always an exciting time of year in the music industry, and the annual GRAMMY nominees CDs are part of that excitement.''

``The GRAMMY Nominees CDs have become one of the industry's best selling compilation albums and their growth in popularity has helped the Academy's GRAMMY Foundation continue its efforts to support music education nationwide,'' said Greene.

Similar to the previous five years, the 2000 series' packaging will include multi-page, full-color booklets highlighting the nominated artists, with an outline of the GRAMMY nominating process and description of the various categories. As with past GRAMMY Nominees releases, which generated worldwide sales of over 9 million units, the compilation albums will be supported by an extensive, national marketing and publicity campaign, including print and television advertising, as well as a strong in-store presence.

In addition to showcasing the year's hottest artists and tracks, a portion of the proceeds from the sales of 2000 GRAMMY Nominees albums will benefit The NARAS Foundation's music education programs such as GRAMMY in the Schools, National Grammy Concert Series For Children and Grammy All-American High School Jazz Band & Choir, as well as its archive and preservation initiatives. NARAS plans to release annual compilations, in conjunction with its regular Hall of Fame and Archival releases. In addition to providing vitally needed resources for the NARAS Foundation, these releases offer exposure for regional and indigenous music which might otherwise be commercially ignored.
