WALTHAM, Mass.--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--Jan. 18, 2000--The following information is from The Lycos 50(TM), the 50 most popular user searches for the week ending January 15, 2000. For a complete list of The Lycos 50 (TM) and for in-depth text of The Lycos 50 Daily Report, go to http://50.lycos.com.

The Lycos 50(TM) Top 10 Search Terms For The Week Ending Jan. 15, 2000

1) Pokemon 6) Pamela Anderson
2) Britney Spears 7) Poetry
3) Dragonball Z 8) Backstreet Boys
4) Martin Luther King, Jr. 9) Jennifer Lopez
5) WWF 10) Las Vegas

Notes of Interest:

Prom Dresses made its debut on this week's list at number 25. Teens are making plans for the big dance four or five months in advance, or so it seems. Prom dresses got twice as many searches last week as wedding dresses. Also on the rise were prom hairstyles and prom themes. Las Vegas moves up to number 10 this week suggesting that users may be planning spring break getaways.

Hottest Rising Star:

Rock stars and rappers step aside. The fastest-rising star on this week's Lycos 50 is the White House (No. 30). Up roughly 55 percent over last week, perhaps intense interest in the presidential elections is finally taking hold.

Biggest Rise:

Martin Luther King, Jr. is up 23 spots to number four as searches prepared for yesterday's January 17 holiday honoring Dr. King.

Biggest Drop:

Publisher's Clearing House, which plummeted 28 spots, falling to number 32 last week, has fallen off this week's Lycos 50 completely. Video game Tomb Raider also fell 12 spots down to number 37.
