- Date: Mar 12, 2099 Mar 12, 1999 (LAS VEGAS) - Teen pop sensation Backstreet Boys scored a hat trick to lead winners at the National Association of Recording Merchandisers' annual Best Seller Awards luncheon Wednesday, during the organization's 41st annual convention. The group's self-titled debut was named best-selling recording of the year. The album, which was issued about 18 months ago on Jive Records, has sold more than 7.5 million copies (in the USA) and has charted for 82 weeks. It continues to sell about 100,000 units per week, according to SoundScan figures. Winners are based on SoundScan figures for sales from March 3, 1998-Feb. 9. Backstreet Boys, whose bow was recently certified at 10 times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America, also walked off with best-selling chartmaker recording for remaining on the charts during the 52 weeks of the sales period, and best-selling music video for its "All Access Video."
