I found an article in the Tampa Tribune this morning that was very upsetting to me. I think many other fans will be upset about this too. It is a review on the NHL All-Star Game. The Backstreet Boys were mentioned in the review. The source is The Tampa Tribune...www.tampatrib.com, written by reporter Ira Kaufman. The title..."Game Review". The section of the article in question is called..."Lows" (as in low periods in the game). Here is what it said: "The Backstreet Boys butchered the Star Spangled Banner, and the NHL has to be thankful these Spice Girls wannabes didn't attempt the Canadian national anthem!" Then there was a picture of BSB next to the article. Under the picuture, it said, "The Backstreet Boys butchered the Star Spangled Banner, but fans were oh so lucky they didn't attempt Oh, Canada!" I thought everyone would like to know about this. I have some final words on this (if you don't mind)...this review couldn't be more wrong. First thing, it's very hard for anyone to do that song esp. acappella! I think it was one of the best versions I have heard of the National Anthem in quite awhile. They would of done just fine with the Canadian National Anthem too, if anyone would ever give them a true chance. And what is with this Spice Girls wannabes quote...are the Boys now cross-dressers too?!? Please!!!!! I really wish that some people would wake up & see what true talent these five men really have. You wanna hear something funny!?! When the Boys did the AMAs, there were mixed feelings about that performance in the BSB chat rooms. Yesterday, when I was in the chat rooms, not one fan had anything bad to say about the National Anthem performance! There was nothing but glowing remarks. The Backstreet Boys fans really do know BSB the best!!!!! KTBSPA!!!!! G.G., Tampa, Florida From Wendy (wball@dlsc.dla.mil) From what I watched, they only did the American Anthem in the very beginning after the announcements of the players. I was quite suprised though, the audience was very "cool". I don't me like cool, but sort of "cold". Of course, a majority of the audience are people my age or older, mostly men. Brian sang a majority of the song, it was accapella. They all came out on the ice with hockey jerseys on. AJ's hair was black with red (it looked like that to me anyway), Kevin was wearing a red jersey and his dark glasses. Nick was wearing Wayne Gretzky's jersey, Howie was in Blue, I couldn't see his number. I thought maybe they would be doing something in half time, but they didn't. It was definitely a different way to do the anthem. From Karina Trudelle [dolphin.kiki328@sympatico.ca] When the Boys performed the national anthem. Did you hear when the stupid jerks, called hockey fans, were "booing" the BSB? I was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO pissed off! I'm sorry but they should've shown some respect towards the Backstreet Boys. When Cher is going to perform next week at the Super Bowl do you honestly think that she's going to be "booed"? I don't think so! I also saw 3 hockey players talking together and laughing about the Boys. I'm seriously thinking about writing a letter to each of them, telling them what I think about what they did. Maybe they don't have any education and that's why they don't know the meaning of RESPECT but let me tell you, I'll make them understand RESPECT! Cynthia Guimond [nicky_cg@videotron.ca] My name is Cynthia and I saw the Backstreet boys this afternoon at the All-Stars Game at 4pm. It was SO great. They sang the US National Anthem and Nick was so cute ( well they were all cute ) and he sang so very well. His voice is getting better while he is growing. The only problem was that they got boo'd when they entered in the stadium. I don't know why. Maybe it's because 2 of them were wearing Canadian Hockey jerseys. Howie had the Toronto Maple Leafs # 97, Kevin had the Montreal Canadiens # 32 ( he was wearing glasses ) , Nick had the Tampa Bay Lightning # 99, A.J. had the Pittsburg Penguins # 69 and Brian had the New York Rangers # 48. It was great, it was beautiful, and I was very happy.
