They were nominated in the "Favorite Adult Contemporary Artist" (winner Celine Dion) and "Favorite Band, Duo, Group" (winner Aerosmith) categories. Lots of people have emailed me to say that the abc.com polls showed that the Boys should have won for both of the categories in which they were nominated. Here are the results from the online voting at abc.com. Category Rankings Favorite Band, Duo, Group Backstreet Boys - 58.27% Matchbox 20 - 22.75% Aerosmith - 18.96% Favorite Adult Contemporary Artist Backstreet Boys - 51.43% Celine Dion - 47.61% Shania Twain - 0.94% It seems that the awards are based on statistical data on sales and airplay from SoundScan and not the online polls.
