- Date: Oct 09, 2001 This whole "united front" thing is getting out of hand: First it was Democrats and Republicans, and now it's... 'N Sync and the Backstreet Boys?!? In an unprecedented union between the Orlando-based boy band and, um, the Orlando-based boy band, the supergroups confirm they will lead an all-star lineup for United We Stand, a benefit concert set for October 21 at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. Bon Jovi, the Goo Goo Dolls, Ricky Martin and Carlos Santana are also reportedly confirmed for the show, 'N Syncer Lance Bass said Monday in a taped interview for MTV's Total Request Live. Though details are still sketchy, the concert will donate proceeds to relief and recovery efforts following the September 11 tragedies (the specific charities are still being worked out). "It's amazing," Bass said. "President Bush is definitely backing it up, and we have everyone from Aerosmith to Matchbox Twenty, us, Britney, Bruce Springsteen... So many people are coming out and really supporting this thing ... and Michael Jackson will be there. It'll be big." Actually, artists such as the King of Pop, Springsteen and Aerosmith are not yet confirmed for the show, reps for 'N Sync's label, Jive Records, said Monday. And one other artist Bass mentioned won't be there: Britney Spears is actually going to be stuck in rehearsals for her fall tour and unable to make the RFK show, her spokeswoman said. For all of the major concert benefits being held following terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, United We Stand marks one of the first to be held in the Washington, D.C., area as opposed to New York. The show will go down just one day after another benefit show at Madison Square Garden, The Concert For New York featuring Paul McCartney, the Who, Mick Jagger and James Taylor, among others. In the case of Bon Jovi and the Goo Goo Dolls, the groups will be hustling that weekend--they're slated to play both shows in New York and D.C.
