Messy Commute

HOUSTON -- The National Weather Service issued a flash-flood watch Thursday for the entire Houston area and suspended a tornado warning for Galveston County.

The heavy rains caused several fender-benders on the roadways, including an accident that involved a big rig belonging to the Backstreet Boys.

The accident happened shortly after 5 a.m. Thursday on Interstate 10 westbound near Katy Fort Bend Road in front of the Katy Mills Mall in Katy, Texas.

Investigators said that the 18-wheeler hydroplaned, jackknifed and then slammed into the center concrete median.

The freeway was shut down in both directions, forcing emergency crews to divert traffic onto the feeder roads.

The Backstreet Boys had performed in Houston Wednesday night at the Compaq Center in southwest Houston.

The big rig was one of four used in the group's tour. Authorities said it was carrying lighting and sound equipment.

No injuries were reported.
