- Date: Mar 15, 2001 SANTA CLARA, Calif. (ENTERTAINMENT WIRE) - On March 23, Yahoo! will bring music fans worldwide the thrill of Backstreet Boys' final stop of the first leg of their sold-out "Black & Blue World Tour" through the group's Internet Webcast. Fans can access the free live Internet broadcast on Yahoo! at http://backstreetboys.yahoo.com. As a special bonus to their biggest fans, Backstreet Boys have allowed members of their Official Online Fanclub (www.backstreetboys.com) to access exclusive, live, in-concert footage available only to Fanclub members. The Webcast, which will be available only as a live performance, begins at 8:30 p.m. ET from Mexico City's Foro Sol Stadium, the final stop on the first leg of Backstreet Boys' two-month, 24-city tour. Leading up to the Webcast, fans can access the concert home page (http://backstreetboys.yahoo.com) where they can find the following services about Backstreet Boys:
"Yahoo! is thrilled to be hosting and producing the Backstreet Boys' first-ever free full-length concert Webcast," said David Mandelbrot, general manager, Yahoo! Entertainment. "Through the Webcast and associated features, Yahoo! is providing Backstreet Boys' fans a free online entertainment destination that brings them closer to the group." "Our first live concert Webcast is a real tribute to our great fans, and thanks to Yahoo!, we can bring the show to them," said Backstreet Boys' Brian Littrell. "We are always looking for new ways to connect with fans, and this Webcast provides a tremendous connection to all of them around the world." The concert will be produced on the Web by Yahoo! Broadcast, an industry leader in providing live audio and video streaming media services for a wide range of customers, including media and entertainment companies, sports leagues, television and radio stations, corporations, advertisers and merchants. During the month of September 2000 alone, Yahoo! Broadcast streamed more than 15 million hours of corporate and consumer programming. Backstreet Boys -- presently recognized as the biggest pop group in the world -- have sold more than 55 million albums in less than three years. The group's new album Black & Blue -- their fourth release -- sold more than five million copies worldwide in its initial week, setting a new first-week record in international sales. Globally, Black & Blue -- whose 13-song selection features five songs co-written by members of the group plus two songs solely penned by all five Backstreet Boys -- has achieved platinum status in 22 countries and gold certification in 10 regions around the world in its first week of release. At the same time, in the U.S. Backstreet Boys -- Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, Brian Littrell, AJ McLean and Kevin Richardson -- have set a new precedent by becoming the first artist in SoundScan history to ever achieve million-plus first-week sales with back-to-back albums.
