Nick Carter, youngest member of global chart-topping supergroup Backstreet Boys, is heading Andrew Lloyd Webber's wish list of leading men to help inject some audience pulling power into his Sunset Boulevard production.

The composer, famous for a string of musicals including Cats and Evita, is planning to bring the musical back to the stage and thinks Carter is the ideal man to front the show. According to peoplenews.com an industry insider claims that Webber regards the blond singer as 'the sort of person that would be perfect for the role.'

Meanwhile Lloyd Webber's agent gave a very noncommittal response to the story, stating, 'We've not yet made any announcement about it but it is fair to say that we are developing a number of projects at the moment. No casting decision has been made yet.'

Nick Carter has already confessed to worldpop that the band will all temporarily go their separate ways after the end of their Black & Blue world tour but it was thought he'd choose to pursue his interests in rock music rather than tread the boards of theatre land. He already manages a US rock band from Tampa Bay called BIK (which stands for Born Into Kaos*) and is a dab hand behind the drumkit as proved during many a Backstreet Boy gig.

However it appears that Sir Lloyd Webber could well be keen to sign up a famous face for his Sunset Boulevard comeback. The musical originally ran for under four years from 1993 at London's Adelphi Theatre but was cancelled because Lloyd Webber considered the production to be 'too extravagant.'

Meanwhile backstreet.net reports that the band were forced to take to the stage as a foursome during their Denver leg of the world tour on Tuesday. Kevin Richardson failed to reach the Pepsi Center venue in time when his plane was grounded due to adverse weather conditions. Fans were denied refunds as it was felt that the show had still gone on as scheduled despite Richardson's absence.
