- ![]() Date: Nov 20, 2000 Backstreet Boys have used the media attention garnered from their 100-hour, six continent promotional trip to voice their dismay at the chaos surrounding the US presidential elections, while suggesting Backstreet Boy Kevin Richardson would make an ideal leader for their country. Speaking from Sydney where the Backstreet Boys spent just 13 hours on the ground to promote their new album, Black And Blue, Brian Littrell said he believed 29-year-old Richardson could have a great career in politics in the future. 'He's so focused that if he wants it bad enough he could most probably have it.' Littrell then compared the skills necessary to survive in one of today's biggest pop bands to the qualities needed to fulfil a role in politics. 'It's obviously a whole different ball game but you learn a lot in the record business about the political world and about making the right decisions. You also learn about power. After all, everyone looks at us as being in one of the most powerful groups in the world,' the singer said. Richardson has vowed to dedicate part of his time to environment causes, adding that although he will initially concentrate his political aspirations on a local level, he may one day take his views further afield. After using his home state, Kentucky, as a starting point, he said, 'After that I'll go for the rest of the US and then, who knows, maybe the world.' In the race for the US presidency, Richardson and bandmate AJ McLean are staunch Gore supporters, while the remaining three members, Brian Littrel, Nick Carter and Howie Dorough, support George W Bush.
