Harris, a 19-year-old singer from Anderson, is the first artist signed to a record label being overseen by the Backstreet Boys. Her debut album is scheduled for release in 2001. The multiplatinum Backstreet Boys also plan to take Harris, who will be marketed by the single name "Krystal," on the road next spring as a supporting act for their "Black & Blue Tour." BSB fans who collected last summer's limited-edition Burger King CDs already have heard Harris sing. Her song My Religion was included as an uncredited "hidden track" on two of the three CDs. The Backstreet label, which doesn't have a name yet, is a spin-off enterprise of the group's management company. The Firm, based in Los Angeles, also manages Korn, Limp Bizkit, Ice Cube and Michael Jackson. Bob Skoro, an executive at the Firm, described Harris as a pop artist with noteworthy sophistication. "I walked into the studio one day and saw her perform at a piano," Skoro says. "It took all the sensibility of disposability out, and it gave it some substance. That's when I really got excited. This woman can sing and she's a really, really talented performer. There's a richness and a depth to her." For now, the company is keeping Harris out of the public eye.
