- ![]() Date: Nov 14, 2000 The Backstreet Boys won't release their new album Black & Blue until November 21, but fans who can't wait to hear what the boys are up to can check out four songs and the "Shape of My Heart" video on the group's official Web site. The site contains a video excerpt from the ballad "Shape of My Heart," which features a forlorn A.J. McLean pleading for forgiveness in an empty theater, wanting to show his ex-girlfriend "the shape of my heart." The site also features Liquid Audio and Windows Media versions of "The Call" that are available as downloads that will expire the day the album comes out. "The Call" is a hard, funk/pop cut that begins with the sound of a phone ringing, a flourish of Spanish guitar, and a phone call in which a guy tells his girlfriend not to wait up for him. It turns out he's met another woman, and the song's first verse begins with, "Let me tell you the story about the call that changed my destiny." The "Black & Blue Multimedia Showcase" also includes samples of three other tracks in streaming audio, as well as a video message in which the group thanks fans for their support. "Get Another Boyfriend" is an aggressive, beat-heavy dance number with lyrics telling a woman to dump her man, because he's no good for her. The other two songs, "I Promise You (With Everything I Am)" and "Time," are ballads in the tradition of "Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely," though the focus seems to be more on solo vocals than on the group's harmonies.
