Date: May 27, 2099 Memo to James Cameron: Okay, here's the pitch. Ricky Martin and Britney Spears crouched in a dank Los Angeles alley, bleeding from superficial facial wounds and smeared with soot. They clutch double barrel shotguns. Britney turns to Ricky and asks, "What the hell was that?" Ricky locks, loads, and frowns: "The Backstreet Boys. They don't feel pain or pity or remorse and they absolutely will not stop until your debut album is dead." Britney shakes her head, "No way, dude." Ricky nods grimly, "Like... totally." From out of the wreckage of a fiery 18-wheeler, AJ emerges. He extends his hand, exposing wires and circuitry, and wipes away some liquid metal from his singed facial hair. He raises his big ass shotgun, points it at Britney and deadpans: "Hit me baby. One more time." Whaddaya think? We can work in an asteroid and maybe a coupla wookies or something. Let's play ball here, Jimmy. After all, Backstreet's back in a big, bad way. That's right, the Beatles of Boy Bands have set a new first week sales record with their latest disc, Millennium. The follow-up to their Diamond-selling, self-titled release entered the charts at No. 1 after selling over 1,113,500 units for the week ending May 23 (according to advance SoundScan results). Last week's No. 1, our hero Ricky Martin's self-titled English language debut, falls to No. 2. Our heroine Britney Spears's Baby One More Time pulls down the No. 3 spot. TLC's Fan Mail is at No. 4. The soundtrack to Star Wars: Episode One: The Phantom Menace is up three notches to No. 5, boosted by last week's theatrical release. The top ten rounds out this way: Shania Twain's Come on Over is at No. 6. Last week's No. 2, Snoop Dogg's No Limit Top Dogg, is at No. 7. The week's second highest debut belongs to that dodgy parrot head Jimmy Buffet, whose latest, I'm A Dodgy Parrot Head (actually, it's called Beach House on the Moon) enters the charts at No. 8. The Ruff Ryders compilation Ryde or Die is at No. 9. Eightball and MJG's Volume 1 - In Our Lifetime at No. 10, the third highest debut.
