"I MET THE BACKSTREET BOYS"

MTV producer Lisa Cunico jetted to Orlando to interview Nick Carter & co.! Here, in this LIME exclusive, she spills all the exciting details of her assignment and recalls fondly, a "Special Connection" with Kev! Oooh!

"I was sent to Orlando to film the Backstreet Boys for MTV Ask, a new programme where fans send in their questions and we get the artists to answer them. It took me 25 hours to travek from Singapore to Orlando and though I didn't get an ounce of sleep, I wasn't tired at all! I got to the Marriott Hotel (the interview venue) early to spruce up the room - I stuck MTV posters all over the wall and also chucked fans' questions (which flooded in from all over Asia!) into a huge flower pot - which Nick later mistook for a hat!

"The first one to arrive was AJ, Mr. Ultra Cool. He swaggered into the room in full Backstreet Boy mooe and didn't take his shades off the entire time! But don't get me wrong, he wasn't unfriendly at all! In fact, he started telling me how tired he was 'cos he'd just bought two dogs (Rugrats he called them!) and how they kept him up all night! They even pee-d on his girlfriend. Except for Kevin and Howie who say they're just "dating" each other (not each other you dopes!, Nick, Brian and AJ admitted to having girlfriends. But no, they didn't name them, although AJ mentioned his girlfriend was in a band.

"Brian was much, much smaller in the flesh than I expected and hopelessly poltie. I was suprised at how properly he was dressed, too! Kevin was very good-looking in person and extremely confident, which is definitely attractive. I think it has a lot to do with his age, which is also why he and I (I'm 27) connected straight away! I found out he likes Maxwell and soul music, too! Howie was very courteous and much quieter than the rest.

"I was starting to panic a little because Nick was an hour late and I was wondering whether to start without him when he suddenly rushed in eating a muffin, wearing a crumpled T-shirt and baggy jeans, his hair stuffed in a cap turned backwards - it was obvious he'd jumped out of bed and rushed straight out of the house! Apologising like mad, it seems he got lost (apparently, it happens quite often!) and begged me to let him finish his muffin.

"The sugar must have got to him though, he was so hyper! In fact, Nick and Brian have the shortest attention spans - I had to keep an eye on them to make sure they didn't go off point. They both have a great sense of humour though!

"There were times when the boys couldn't understand my accent. Like when I said the programme was MTV Ask, Nick went: "Whaat? MTV Arse?" (Laughs). So I said MTV As-ker a pseudo-American accent and continued speaking like that which craked them up completely! Howie almost fell off the armchair laughing! They said they'd never seen an Asian girl try to imitate the American accent before and found it hilarious!

"Things sobered up slightly when it came to a question for Nick. A fan wanted to know if he cried when he read the book his mom wrote (The Heart And Soul Of Nick Carter). Nick got slightly pensive. He said he didn't cry, though.

"I got a chance to hear the boys sing a cappella when they performed '10,000 Promises' as a suprise for a fan. They've got great voice!

"All in all, other than Nick being late, the shoot went VERY smoothly. The boys were professional and were perfect gentleman - very down-to-earth and extremely polite. AJ came up and shook my hand the minute the interview was over and thanked me. So did Howie. Nick slapped me on the shoulder and was like, 'Hey man! Make sure you go to all the theme parks!' Kevin recommended some club and apologised for not having time to bring me around - he was really nice. We did that side-to-side-blow-kiss thingy and then they all trooped out to the suite next door - for ANOTHER interview!

"I actually bumped into Kevin again the next day at the hotel and we waved at each other. I definitely think they're genuinely nice guys and I had a really fun time!"
