Date: Apr 19, 2099 On May 18, 1999 the whole world will have the opportunity to simultaneously sample what Nick Carter, Brian Littrell, AJ McLean, Howie Dorough, and Kevin Richardson have been up to for the past six months. Though they've sold 27 million albums in more that 48 different countries so far, this is the first time that a Backstreet Boys CD will have a single worldwide release. Over in Europe and Asia, Backstreet Boys fans have had the opportunity to sample two previous BSB discs, Backstreet Boys and Backstreet's Back. Here in the States, more that 9 million fans purchased the Boys' self-titled debut CD, propelling it into a tie with Celine Dion's Let's Talk About Love for the best-selling non-soundtrack album of 1999. That's pretty impressive stuff. So how does a group with such a hot streak go about creating a brank new album when so much is expected from them? With lots of advance planning! The preparations for Millennium began last summer right before the Backstreet Boys set out on their highly successful American concert tour. Each of the guys took an individual "writing trip" to spend some time working out new songs with some Backstreet Boys' favorite producers, including Full Force, Max Martin, Mutt Lange, and Steve Lipson. Despite the participation of so many talented producers, the Backstreet Boys wanted to make sure that they left their own personal mark on their music. More than any BSB album which preceded it Millennium is brainchild of the five members of Backstreet Boys. Fans should expect to hear songs that are uniquely personal to the members of the group as well as tunes that reveal their innermost feelings. "There's a song I wrote called 'Back To Your Heart,'" says Kevin, noting that the romantic tune was based on his own personal relationships. "And Brian wrote a song called 'The Perfect Fan,' which is about our moms. The rest of the guys are putting songs together and finishing songs they've written." If you attended one of Backstreet Boys' shows last summer you might have already had a preview of some of the tunes on Millennium. Songs such as "My Heart Stays With You," "Nobody But You," and "That's What She Said," which were performed by Howie, Kevin, and Brian respectively during their solo sets on last year's concert trail, might find their way onto the group's new CD. Backstreet Boys are also planning a new tour. The guys promise that the new show will feature more dancing, more singing, more singing, and more special effects---just more of everything that fans expect from a Backstreet Boys show. Although the group will still rely on their touring band, there's a good possiblility that they'll pick up instruments again on this tour. Fans across the nation responded very enthusiastically last summer when the group took over the band's gear for a new rendition of "Quit Playin' Games (With My Heart)." Sadly, since the group spent so much time touring in the United States last summer, Backstreet Boys concerts probably won't start up here until the fall. That's because they don't want their fans in other countries to feel like they've been neglected. However, the group promises to me making lots of TV and magazine appearances before they fly off to begin their travels around the world. "We're going to do some promotions and stuff, travel around to different places [in the US]. Then we start touring again---Germany, the UK, South America, and Southeast Asia," explains Kevin. "And we're definately coming back to the United States, too." So, mark your calendar! May 18, 1999 is the beginning of a whole new Millennium for Backstreet Boys!
